"Only an irresponsible owner would let their dog of any breed off leash at anytime, regardless of how well they are trained."

WTF? x 3

Your dogs must really enjoy life.

nonacona60 - "Only an irresponsible owner would let their dog of any breed off leash at anytime, regardless of how well they are trained...They are still animals and have minds of their own which are not controllable 100% of the time...JMO"

How can hunting dogs hunt if they're always on a leash? How can herding dogs do their work if always on a leash. How can police dogs apprehend a criminal if they're always leashed. Even national forests required dog do be "under control" at all times. This is not necessarily on a leash.

The key is "under control".

i live in franklin county, va. there is no leash law. the law here does state that the dog be under your contol, county tags and rabies tag.

Hmm I guess I read that wrong, I thought she meant it was alright to have them off leash in fenced yard

I just feel that if a person's property is not entirely fenced in, the minute the dog walks out of a confined area, whether it be the house, or an area that is fenced, the dog should be on a leash...

With that said, I do disagree with that.

I thought this thread was about dogs in a neighbor, not out doing a specific job such as what is listed above?  Had any of WTF's taken the time to try to comprehend the meaning of my reply they possibly would had comprehended it was not  in reference to any dog listed above.....

I wish people would think before they post the first thought that pops into their head.....Sheesh, this is usually what happens.....This thread has been taken to new direction.  Now its hunting dog, police dogs and herding dogs doing their jobs while on a leash..... I do believe at the VERY beginning of this thread, there was a comment about a dog that attacked a mailman....

AND YES!!!!  My dogs are always supervised, whether its on a leash outside our  fenced in yard, or unleashed in our fenced in yard....

AND YES!!!! Our dogs are every contented here and have a very enjoyable life....So please don't assume anything you know nothing about....

I do believe that some people should live in a communist country, than maybe they would think before running the jabber jaws..JMO

I still believe that a person that leaves a dog off leash for the hell of it, outside of a confined area is an irresponsible owner... Its a disaster waiting to happen...Why take the chance, be respectful of others. Can anyone one guarantee their dog will not run off, or bite when lease expected Thats called accidents.......I don't think so...You might think you can, but in reality, you can't...Not even dogs are perfect, just as there is no perfect person....JMO..

The point is that when many of these laws are written they are much too broad and sometimes can be interpreted by the powers that be to include hunting dogs and the like. That is one reason your post got the replies it did. Maybe you are the one that should think before you run your mouth. Making statements like you did only fuel the fire for others who want all encompassing laws that they can use to further their own agendas.

SportySchGuy,
I knew you would be the one to come back with a argumentative reply...

My statement was my opinion.....perhaps if it was kept in the context it was written, and not twisted to mean something completely different, you would not see it as a means to fuel the fire....But than again, maybe that is your intentions each time you reply to any of my post or address me regardless of what I post.....

Try to do like I do. I never address you when you post anything, unless you address me first..Ignore me and my post.....

I will no longer reply to you on this public messageboard...If you need to address me again, do it in a PM as it is obvious this also has been twisted to become something personal...

You are correct...absolutely! Dogs are personal to me and most on this board. You are the one that made the statement and yes I am one of the ones who felt compelled to reply. Nothing personal against you at all....just your remark. Perhaps if you worded it differently then it would not have gotten twisted. Unless you want things to get twisted then on an international forum you must be extremely clear and thoughtful when writing your comments.

"Only an irresponsible owner would let their dog of any breed off leash at anytime, regardless of how well they are trained."

Dear Lord, I feel for your little prisoners.  This earth belongs to them, as well.  My dogs run in forests, parks, yards, trails ... wherever their maturity and training allow.   Unless you tell me you run 10 miles a day with each of your dogs at a nice clip, I say: place your poor prisoners before they die.

They are not hamsters.

I just realized I am not alone in my condemnation.  Now I feel like a bully.  But the message is clear: please switch to toy dogs or hamsters.
