I am glad for the original poster that the dog has other attributes that make it worthwhile for the OP to keep the dog.
On the other hand there is NOTHING wrong with cutting your losses and rehoming a dog that doesn't work out, (for WHATEVER reason), providing you find a good home for the dog.
