Keith Grossman

Hodie is right.  I had this same situation with one of my dogs once and it required surgery to correct.  I would not wait.  By the way, my dog's obstruction turned out to be a new potato.

try feeding him vaseline mixed with peanut butter(handfulls) and mineral oil, to get it to move and slide out an older vet had us do that before surgery and it worked

If money is an issue look for an organization that does surgery or vet issues for a fraction of the cost.  My sisters dog had the same problem and the dog had to have surgery .  He ate a sock.  she paid in the 500 to 700 dollar range instead of 1500.  Where are you located someone may know of an organization near you

by Tadum on 22 January 2011 - 05:01

So.. I was back to  the vet today with Tadum and had more x-rays, it appears that he is doing much better, there is some room free in there and the vet hopes he will pass whatever it is soon. He is eating, drinking, and back to his old self again. The problem still exist to an extent but the vet advises to monitor closely with x- rays and that it can take some time to clear completely. If it do not clear she will perform surgery to remove it.
.
Thanks for the advise and some good tips!!

I live in Northern Canada in a Isloated town, we just have the one vet. Surgery here for a blockage can cost 3000 and hopefully there would be no complications along with that.
I hope to avoid going that route, I bet Tadum does to.

that is great

it was the complications of the block that got my
guy

he was chasing a dirt bike literally 1 hour before i took him to
the vet
after running he started wobbling bad and i realized something
was wrong.
he had a couple feet of intusuucception and punctures from running

good luck

Supply and demand does not work in your favor this time

I sure hope it passes soon. Did your vet give you any advice as to what to do to help the blockage pass? Someone mentioned giving mineral oil, but be careful while giving it to make sure your dog doesn't aspirate it. The best way to give it is with some food.  Again, please monitor your dog very carefully and keep him fairly quiet because he is still in danger. The best of luck to you and your dog.
The best,

So......I tried the Peanut Butter and oil with  Tadum and he had two poops this morning!!! I did not notice anything big that woold have been causing an obstruction but at least he is eating, drinking, active, and pooping again!!! He shows no sign of pain and apears he is his old self again.

I think the Peanut Butter and oil is helping, thanks Burger64. I am going to continue to monitor him closely to be sure he continues to progress. I hope he is in the clear!!

Tandum,

I had GSD that ate an entire 6' nylon leash (except for the clip), I thought for sure she was in for a world of hurt. She passed it with out any complications, so don't stress to much.

Good luck.
