Well first off......why be a smart ass corleone? I felt I needed to be more informed on when this split occurred & who were the major players involved. My earlier attempts at google wasn't working so posted this. Now that I have some names to put with the search I'm getting somewhere. There is one thing that cant be fixed Mr. Corleone. As ron white says...."YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID" so therefore you will never "fix" the breed as one would desire because of the players involved and the most obvious one"MONETARY GAIN". But before I argue a point I want to be darn sure I have my facts straight. Sincerely. Kurt hill

Kurt, I know who Alex is and I know your kennel. When I said, "you", I guess I should have said, "we", but I don't see myself breeding GSDs in the future to consider myself part of the solution. If that makes sense? I personally don't think the breed will ever go totally back to it's roots. I think it will become further split, but as long as there are people out there like yourself, we will always have good working GSD with good structure. The Dobermann is probably worse off by far. At least, with the GSD, there is still a large amount of educated people that keep work in mind.

Mr. Cornholio. You are a malignant tumor on this site with absolutely nothing to offer. You answered to a post with nothing of value. You DID NOT know my kennel nor did you know who ALEX was until you came back to this post ; looked up alex and realized you STUCK YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH. My advice to you is get off your computer and"GO TRAIN". It is people like you who keep people from posting who are interested in a particular subject which is what this place is for. So far I have only gotten 1 intelligent response which tells me most on here are clueless to the answer. It is something I am very interested is I found myself unable to explain something that I think we all should know. I am not a BREEDER & in my opinion the breeders here in the states can be counted on 1 hand. Most so called breeders advertise in schutzhund usa with a stud they BOUGHT in europe and claim to be such ETHICAL breeders and behind closed doors breed to every tom, dick & harry who has a female with certified hips and willing to pay the STUD FEE. They don't adhere to the standard they SO CLAIM to be an advocate of. THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE. I am by no means a "BREEDER" but I will make a breeding if I feel it will BENEFIT the GSD. Ps. I'm still looking for Intelligent & informed info on this subject. Sincerely. Kurt Hill. Vom Eisenhaus

Am I the only one who is appalled that someone who thinks the only working lines are DDR or Czech is BREEDING??? Or that anyone is taking Don so seriously? LOL

Kurt,

If you have a look at the 6 generation pedigree of your dog Alex vom Eisenhaus you will see both Quanto and Canto - both VA (in show) dogs and these are considered to be two pillars of  present showlines.

They were born in 1967 & 1972 respectively so it could be said the split occured a little after this. You may also notice a few other dogs that occur in both present day working & show line pedigrees e.g. Bernd vom Lierberg (1962), Lasso Di Val Sole (1974), Mutz von der Pelztierfarm (1970) & Marko vom Cellerland (1968).

So although the split was gradual we are looking at somewhere around the early/mid seventies.

Here's a good thread around this topic that you may find interesting www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/forum/29380.html

Cheers,

AandA
