With my first German Shepherd long time a ago, I used to tell my neighbours that "if you want to ..... be nice to the dog and call her with a sweet voice and if not just do your business and leave when the dog is on the leash". But one of my neighbours always used to call the dog with a commanding voice and used to say "No" when she barks at her." I always used to tell the lady not to boss around with the dog. The dog is just protecting her territory. Nothing else. When people come to visit you they should be nice to your dog ....call them with a sweet voice or just mind your business and leave.
One day the dog was not on the leash and the same neighbour came to borrow some tools and while leaving the dog went and got her "butt". That's the live bite I saw with my dog. And that's real time protection or gaurding.
The dog saw the person taking away something from her territory and she did what needs to be done.
So, as I always tell people ...........when you goto some one else's house or territory just be a visitor and not to boss around with their dogs because the dogs know very well who their boss is.
