AKC informed me when I asked the same question, that even if you do not register a name, they will not issue the same name (vom ___) if a pattern of use has been established.  Don't know if that's true.

WoW!!! That is great,...that is if it is the truth. Anybody has experience with this?

That is a bunch of BS

I have registered  hundreds of my dogs with my kennel name ...YOu have to issue a contract to the buyer stating that the name    ALPINE KENNEL   (example) cannot be removed from the application of this dog..and you write   ALPINE   vom   Prager in the application...the owner has the right to put

ALPINE  GUFFY LA LA FU FU vom Prager...if they want...or they do not have to use Prager...just ALPINE>

In the contract you state that the name may not be changed.  I also state that the  )&*@$*(&$&*( is my registered name in the Galveston Co . Courthouse in What ever county you live in...

IT makes that contract legal and binding and the person is also told in writing that removal of the ALPINE will result in legal action.(Using ALPINE as an example only)

AKC HONORS IT...THEY have honored it for me  ^ 6 times....6 times persons tried my hand at it..AKC was sent the contract after contacting me that an erasure was occured on my paper application and I sent a copy of the contract and they issued and in one case re issued the DOGS paper with the correct kennel name on the paperwork...

The less you tell AKC the better off you are.. AND by all means do not bother to call them and try explaining  kennel names or what is legal or not....wasting your time...all they do is get you frustrated.

I tell them nothing and I have never in 35 years of registering dogs had one problem with them...only once they stood on  WHEN THE JUDGE IN the case of my stolen stud...SENDS US PAPER WORK ADVISING US WHAT TO ACT ON WE WILL THEN CHANGE PAPERWORK OR ISSUE DOG PAPERS.

THE JUDGE  did not get involved and the case was never closed as the dog was never found..MAny kinds of cases have to be settled in Court before AKC will even act...I do not bother with them period...my business is my business.

I have never had to worry about papers not given...I just had 6 people try to overstep..in fact one still has not been addressed by me,come to think of it.  .I need to correct that this next week.    (golly one more thing to do before I hang out the last leash....!!!!!!!')

Whoa, YR.  I just meant that for AKC purposes.  In other words, if I were to try to register a dog with your kennel name, even though you are not "registered" as a kennel by AKC, they will not allow me to use your suffix if they see a pattern of use.  That is what they told me.  I am not talking about a legal protection of your kennel name or about someone who is trying to register the dog under a name other than what was given by the breeder.
