Then it sounds like they need better dogs. And it also sounds like typical hillbilly bull$h!+.

Doberdoodle, sorry to hijack your thread. Didn't look like it was going in a very good direction though...

This is Seven at about 4mos. old, Buckeye. And Seven is a SHE! LOL

As to the other post, I maintain my position stated previously;-) I shudder to think what "amp 'em up" means.

sorry for that jenni
i really like her paternal grandsire
and maternal granddam

as far as the op

it would seem to be very difficult to find
people responsible enough to adopt "rehabilitated"
fighting dogs

I wonder what agencies strictly rehab fighting dogs.  And I wonder is it worth the time, because they are soooo many Pits being put down here just for the sheer volume.  Also, offhand, that shelter who has the 2 Pits, they have a lot and they call them "Am Staffs."  If it is animal-aggressive, can you ever "rehab" that out of them, hmm.

i would say a good dog could be controlled
but rehab is doubtful
even if rehabbed the new owner would have to
be very diligent because one growl or posture from another
dog could easily go bad fast

Most people don't understand the game pit. I've lived with them all 30 years of my life. I don't codone dog fighting but I was raised around it. The proper bred pit can be very dog aggressive, high tollerance for pain, high endurance,  but was never supposed to show any aggression towards humans. Many were known not to bark much. My pits were even a little soft when it came to correction. They could be a little stubborn and lacked focus but feelings could easily get hurt from verbal correction.

I have seen pits that had to be seperated from their littermates because of unsolicitated fights escalating. I get tired of people saying these dogs were trained to fight. That's like saying a good GSD has to be trained to tug, full grips, confident, . Yes some dogs have to be trained for this, but the good ones are bred with this desire and capability and training just builds on top of this

I have also seen pits live happily with various other dogs. But I will say that once that "GENETIC"trigger is turned on, it is hard to subdue.

That beeing said adopting out a pit that has been faught to singal dog homes is no different in adopting out other breeds and stating they will not be good for homes with children, cats, dominant males, or other specifications.

No dog is great for every type of home.
