I have seen far worse positioning - the legs are actually quite straight and the pelvis "not too far off" but the dog isn't quite centered - the hips are turned slightly to the - left I think - and so one hip looks better seated than the other.  IMO if the dog were centered just slightly better, both hips would look perfectly fine - and so my assessment of the x-rays is don't bother sending them into OFA or a-stamp because of positioning - but the positioning is fine for diagnostics - there is nothing wrong with his hips IMO they are certainly passing.  I don't see anything wrong with the elbows either (other than positioning) - but I am not good at reading elbows so don't take my word for that.

There are very good x-rays and diagrams on the OFA site you could show your vet for future reference on how to properly position the dog for x-rays.  Keeping in mind that a sedated dog is easier to manipulate and position (and hold still), and many vets use a foam "V-mattress" that the dog lays on  his back and it supports him in that position to make the whole process much easier for the vet.

Yes, please do not keep exposing the dog to radiation to try and get a better xray when the vet is clearly not experienced in this and it could take many many films. From what I can gauge by picturing the hips in proper position, they look good.

well, again, the citing that we are not perfect and while the xrays are not, they are still plenty readable.

Not to give my opinion on the xrays though, I think you should just take them in hand and ask a radiologist or veterinarian to read them who REGULARLY evaluates hips on dogs, especially German Shepherds.   I suspect you will be very happy with what they have to say.  If you cannot find someone within your area, you can email ANY veterinary radiologist at veterinary colleges in the U.S.  and email your radiographs.

I personally use this method, xray in hand as it is most convenient, walk to veterinary school radiologist, and let them tell me everything.  It is helpful that they know the age of the dog too.

Cheers!

Nancy, I am afraid there is none here who can read joints of a dog. I e mailed all the x rays to Hans Prager and shall wait for what he will say, he promised to help in reading and evaluating the joints. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the advice Jenni78, I will not re-exray in the near future as for Erri there were 3 x rays in one day, maybe too much.
