I have heard of a trainer urinating on a dog to show dominance. I have heard of placing tack strip on the top of a jump to "teach" a dog not to touch it. My personal favorite was watching that nutjob Victoria Stillwell get some poor woman to eat her cereal out of a dog bowl in front of her husky to show she was the pack leader.

Are you serious KC?

I would guess Ed Frawley, sounds like something he'd suggest.

I only heard through a credible source, not the actual person who did it. Nothing surprises me. I've heard worse, too, but I use my real name so I won't post it publicly!

Duplicate entry.

Nope, not Ed Frawley, but he difinitely is a nutcase. He was giving a lecture to ten postal workers. The description on the lecture showed such showmanship.
1. I am being sarcastic when I say showmanship.
2. The hint is in the word showmanship.

Edit: Before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch, I know this was a ludicrous guess. "showmanship". Get it?

Somehow with the "showmanship" hint, I'm thinking Cesar Milan. Though I have never watched one of his shows, all I know about him is what I have read on-line.

Nans GSD just because you do not understand it does not mean that only idiots are or were using it. It is soo easy to dis someone. However there is a lot to be learned from each method. Koehler method was a staple of dog training from 50ties and up to 70 and 80ties and even today just about all dog training methods have adopted some parts and principles of it. Probably hundreds of thousands of dogs were trained (and yes "helped" ) that way. And these dogs were made that way good pets and good working dogs. It was a quick method which straightened many otherwise to death condemned dogs. If this method was used properly then the dogs were happy, and reliable dogs. It pains me when I hear that what is modern is better then the old. Yes let's call it yank and crank method and insinuate that we are much more evolved (and stuck up) dog trainers. Yes we are "better" much "better" then trainers back then. I guess that is why there are in dog pounds record numbers of dogs. I have trained here more overly aggressive dogs against their owners or more overly protective dogs which went through touchy feely chrome plated positive crap methods from petsmarts or other such outfits then from any other source. Even untrained dogs are not as much marked with aggression problem.
Yes there are shortcomings in every method. And thus I think that only people with limited horizon will get stuck on one method and call everybody who does not use strictly just "that" method, an "idiot". I use many methods depending on the purpose the dog is going to serve and temperament and history of the dog and last but not least how much time I have to "fix" such often gangster like dog. I would like to see the use of a clicker method on a 120 lb Rottweiler who aims to kill you and his master too,... from a get go and "the owner will put him down in a week" if you do not fix him in a week. "This is the last chance for the sucker" situation is what professional dog trainers do more often then not. Most people will not call you to train their dog if he is good. They unfortunately will call you when he charged neighbors dog or child. Then is too late for positive only methods which may work with well socialized young dogs.
