Show shovels, push brooms, and garden hoses when washing the car or garage/kennel floors and runs. It really gets irritating as H___ until I make them break away and quit. My old male used to dig a hole if you would tap your foot on the ground, once sniffed out a spot when he was about six or seven months old, went a foot or so deep and came up with a spark plug socket that had probably been dropped there when the house was built twenty or so years earlier.

OH MY GOSH   GSDGUY

I did not know  any one of us  said we have no control over our dogs....I just said what they did.....and all top dogs do that...

I did not tell in detail   how, all I have to do is say  NINE!  AUS ! go play ...and it is not a problem on my three acres....Good golly , you make us all look like nutcases just because we told what our dogs do...For years all dogs I have ever owned show play drive or high drive when a new tool comes out....but I control my dogs...I would not be called a trainer after 34years if I didnt know how to control my herd...attached is a pic for you info..Yes you riled up my dander...donot read into things...

You already chewed me out for disagreeing about  the person who couldnt afford dog food when I posted a disagreeable post...
JUST STAY COOL  AND DO NOT ASSUME that we do not know how to control our dogs.. I CAN CONTROL  8 gsd at one time   HOW many can you control at one time???

Beautiful pack of dogs, YR. I love the expressions, even the puppy is giving you undivided attention! I only have 2 GSD, both have high play drive for water, lawnmowers, vacuum, etc....much like described . Most of the time they out quickly. Sometimes, it requires a bit more of a stern command, but are controllable. All in all, I am glad they have that drive...makes for a better GSD to me.

Thanks Davren::   THat little puppy with the undivided attention on ME  was  DIETER   the wheel chaser...
He was the easist pup of all my dogs to train...I had him whipped in shape in three months from the day I bought him...he was the biggest PLEASE MOM dog I ever had besides BEAR JEROME> And they both had more drive than any one would wish upon anyone....not just play drive either...ENCLAVEHOF and Tiekerhook /Korbeltal..all in one four legged dog.

I carry a big stick or a billy club on my riding lawnmower and if someone decides not TO MIND ME...they may get WACKED on the KISSER with the CLUB>>>>>>

ThAT IS NOT DOG CRUELITY EITHER

ONE  < TWICE> THREE times a LADY.....lol

Usually after the 5th or 6th crack up side the head they start to get it.

Seriously, I have two pups that chase it, bite it and one that humps it when I stop shoveling. I just toss a ball so I can get my work done.

Speaking of   WHEN I ISSUE A COMMAND!!!   This is four of my kids in KENTUCKY visiting in Sommerset, and I had my son take the picture...I yelled    HEIR!  and you see what the result was??

This was the same group of dogs except Bali was in the group and they were all a lot younger..Dieter was not even born at this time.

I believe if you are gonna invest in a gsd you must learn how to be ALPHA

The last one in the picture is ZU the momma of the other three...she is bringing up the rear as if she is the herder.....of the pack...lol

And they are all wearing their markers of our kennel..the American flag bandanas....

"That's just a matter of controlling your dog. Whether it's high drive or not you should still be able to do yard work with your dog out."

You're on dope.

Red Sable

GSDguy just stated a fact.  I don't think he was implying anything about anyone.  At least I didn't take it that way.  So why the heck is he on dope?

Keith Grossman

Because it's not a "fact".  You can either encourage that drive in a young dog or you can squash it and ruin the dog for work; you can't have it both ways.

Raymond, crate your dog until you're done with your chores.

Who said raymond does't want his dog attacking the shovel?

I have some nice sets of teeth marks in both my rake and my snow shovels, and the tip of my cross country skis.   :)  Courtesy my Rotty mix female. Actually, her energy and drives were such that she is the one who got me into Schutzhund. (not enough drive and seriousness though to do well).

But do you think she would so much as raise a paw and pitch in a bit with the snow shoveling? Noooooo . . . .!!!!   That's my job, aparently, her job is to subdue the evil shovel and prevent it from rising in rebellion!

And I'm a bit bemused that such a fun and simple subject can bring the dramatic hysterics out in some people at a drop of a hat.

Oh, when when I say enough, she stops. But why do others feel the need to act superior by assuming that only their dog does?
