Ovulation question...? - Page 2

I'm beginning to think that there is another phenomenon going on where they don't have a "split" heat but rather a heat that just stalls and goes nowhere. Recently,  I have had a similar experience with an 8 year old female who came into heat and I assume never ovulated or my male would have been all over her which didn't happen. I didn't do progesterone on her because I had no intention of breeding her.  And a younger female came in with what I thought was a split heat and went out in about a week and did not come back in until her next cycle.  I don't know what this is but it's certainly not a split heat. 

I've been hearing all kinds of strange things about female cycles lately like females not coming in for 8-9 months when their normal cycles are 5-6 months. I've had that quite a few times lately myself. 

Now, my older female when she was first bred registered 6.2 with progesterone on day 12, took her to the male who couldn't do this thing and I then thought we were done.  She was subsequently bred to a male on day 23 and we had a healthy litter of 5.  Go figure.  Makes one wonder about the validity of progesterone testing or what is going on with female cycles.   

I still say that the males know when the time is right.

Robin, i have a female that always has longer cycles and always has the spit heat. this sounds like your girl, if she is having a split heat she will come back in , within 2 months and will have a normal cycle. so i say just wait and see.
