I have a bitch that spots about three weeks in on every litter she has had. The litters were 7,7 and 4. It can be normal and it can be cause for concern. For her it is completely normal. When in doubt, take your girl to the vet.

It wasn't a split heat....we ran progesterone and had both the LH surge and ovulation. But without running the numbers you are right!

I would probably take her to the vet ASAP! If she develops a pyometra you could be in real trouble! By the time most owners notice the dog is sick it is usually pretty bad!

they generally won't get a pyo if they are bred because there is so much blood flow to the uterus,,I would ask the Vet about getting some clavamox or knowing me baytril!

Bitches can get pyometra after being bred.....we've had 2.
One female was spayed, the other was treated and is doing fine.

Could be nothing at all- old blood left over from the heat just pooled somewhere and discharging now - or could be one aborted puppy, not necessarily affecting the rest of the litter - could be an indication of the loss of the whole litter - in which case there is nothing you can do anyway about that. Pyo - unlikely but as you are doing, monitor her temperature and attitude and take her to the vet if there are obvious problems with that. Good luck,

Update:
Mild fever. Elevated white cells. Not huge. They swabbed and found white cells and blood in vagina. We don't know from what.
Also - she is slighly ANEMIC (14% below low range) and my vet is concerned. I know they get that way closer to end of pregnancy...not so much at day 22. They say can get to 40-50% below low at end of pregnancy.
The new issue...and maybe the main problem is they found a lump around a rear mammary gland. It seems to be an abcess.
She is on an antibiotic but I am distressed.
She is eating. Drinking ok. Plays hard outside. Sleeps all the time inside.
She has the ultrasound on Wednesday so we don't know if pregnant.
And I don't know how this lump will be treated.

Sounds like a pyo with bloodwork like that, I dont know why they are going to wait to ultrasound unless you have a traveling technician. I would say she is not pregnant and depending on her age you could treat with antibotics and the Lutalyse shot or just spay her.

Ultrasound didn't seem to show signs of pyo. Fever is gone.
Only 2 viable pups were seen however but she had a large amount of food in her intestines. Could that have obscurred things?
The results re breast mass show an inflammation like mastitis. I wonder if white cells etc were associated with this inflammation.
The real question however is why is is still bleeding a bit. Wouldn't aan aborted pup be absorbed??
