"Humane Society Cruelty Investigators had been checking on the dogs periodically, as a result of her probation, the Humane Society said. Investigators recently became concerned about the welfare of the dogs."
So, I wonder what "periodically" means, exactly?

Obviously not frequently enough. :(

Someone else local caught it on the news tonight, I missed it since I don't have cable or local channels but hopefully I can catch the snippet online later on.

Daryl, I watched the Humane Society in Detroit on Animal Planet. They found a neglected dog. They gave the poor thing half of a 40 lb bag of dog food. When they came back the next day, the dog had bloat and they were surprised.

I think they're going to replay it at 10 tonight - time to find out of my roof mounted antennae works I guess.

The person who caught it on the news earlier said the dogs were in worse conditions than the pictures we found online showed. I'll see if I can tape it and put it on youtube.

I hope the dogs are taken good care of wherever they will be. Dogs are often confiscated here and placed at the shelter only to live there for MONTHS while the case sits out. A dog at the shelter does not do well and some of them end up passing away waiting. I think dogs in this circumstance should be fostered until the case is heard. Its so sad that after all they have gone through, they end up dying while they wait.

Bhaugh,
Unfortunately, they're "evidence" - I don't know if they will be able to be fostered out or not - I am assuming not until the case is heard due to documentation of their condition and medical issues. Hopefully, the case will be heard ASAP and at least a temporary injunction to the animals welfare put into place where HSPPR will have the legal right to assign them to a rescue/foster homes/ or adopt them out.

For what it's worth, HSPPR is a nice set up with a good staff from my very limited experiences with them, it was clean and the animals in their care were taken care of. Anything is better than spending their lives out in outdoor kennels in this weather, considering our high today was around 20 degrees.

According to the kennel site, at least two of the dogs that were probably taken yesterday are possibly pregnant as well - their puppies page mentioned two bitches due in February or so.

So she was on probation for animal curelty and is allowed to breed dogs? Why the hell isn't there a law regarding this? Why the hell doesn't the AKC refuse litter registrations from people convicted of animal abuse?  I've had enough for one night, time to step away from the computer.
