3Shep2

Thanks Michele-Kip did come from a "Hobby breeder/BYB".  I observed and played with the parents before choosing Kip from the large litter at 7 days of age-never regretted it.  The above photo was taken at the age of eight before he blew his coat-he's now 11.5 years of age.  He is the one that all visitors pick as their favorite-he's been an excellent watchdog and companion-his intelligence is off the board.  He was never bred and was altered at 5-so I missed out on a possible replacement but then I would have never sold the pups.

Looks a lot like my Lexie, whom I rescued I guess. I adopted her from a quite elderly couple for whom she was way too high energy. She had been sent home with them at 5 weeks of age. She is 7 yrs old now and is still an energizer bunny. She is one of four of our farm/alert dogs who have the run of about 8 acres (in invisible fence) of our 22 acre horse farm.

If you don't belong there the sight of 4 GSD's running up the driveway, usually is enough to make them turn around and leave.

I hate to start anything here but are you kidding me that a byb is the place to go for a good "straight backed dog? What does the back of a dog have to do with hips, health and mind. Nothing! I deal with byb's every week and there is nothing grand at all about what they do to (not for) the breed. Many of them cant even spell the name correctly when posting puppies for sale.  And really what is this "straight back" thing anyway? Whatever happened to "I have a great german shepherd who is healthy and clear minded" Now that would be a great thing to hear.

So the BYB breeders breed dogs with hip issues and health issues, and the so called reputable breeders don't have these issues????? When will people learn that a dog with health issues and hips issues HURT whether it comes from BYB,HOBBY,or commercial!! Actually, I have seen better temperament out of many BYB than the socalled High Falutin breeders....but temperament is not as important as status....oh what a tangled web we weave!!!

I was hoping to see more American Show Line folks post photo........

not the byb vs hobby vs commercial breeding issue that's been debated to death already.

Very nice looking dog.  Obviously not a show dog - and that is why it is so nicely structured
