She wanted to be with you so she took all your stuff and left it laying about hoping to recreate a sense of you--- who abandoned her for a party!      You are just lucky she didn't get thoroughly pissed off, then she would have chewed it all up! My dog was such a theif, and he still looks to snatch personal items in all manners,  in moments of shear exuberance, and can be seen choosing and discriminating in his selections. Shepherds are very good at communicating if you are receptive, IMO

Thanks Beetree,  Yes, I definitely feel lucky that she wasn't thoroughly pissed off.  I know she is capable of doing some damage. I guess I should go to her and beg for forgiveness! Thankfully she is not a grudge holder  :)

I am definitely sure this bitch needs a job.  That is something my old serivce dog would have done if I "Owed" them a reward or a treat for something they think they did that was great.  In their little pea brains that could have been that you were gone for sometime and when you came home you did not reward them for being in their crates for a long period of time and instead you had company and she felt she needed to be rewarded for something??  You can guess forever but I am just sure that you owed her a good dog treat.

Hi Nan, Well, I did feed the dogs their yummy raw dinner  when I got home. That should count for something :) ! Shelby is a rescue dog, so I know nothing of her past. I used to say she wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm beginning to think she's smarter than I give her credit for. She does have a job, but we haven't been going to do therapy work as much as in the past, due to my mom and her needs. I guess it's time to get my girl back to work or at least  give her more exercise and attention! Based on the responses I've gotten, I'm inclined to think she was possilby entertaining herself due to boredom and also trying to get my attention, expressing her discontent over my lack of "appreciation" for the very good girl that she always tries to be...and she truly is a very good dog. I am going to go give her a good dog treat right now. She must've known what I was typing about her because she just came over to me and looked up at me with those woeful eyes as if to remind me that she is here. Gotta go do some fun stuff with my girl!

Please don't post this drivel unless your lipstick is open and she has a pink hue on her lips! ;). My dog changes the tv from ESPN to animal planet when I go to the bathroom. I thought I was losing my mind for weeks until I came home early one afternoon and he had the neighbor's dog over and they were watching a dirty vhs video I lost years ago. The funny thing is that the VCR hasn't been hooked up in years. It has been packed away in a box.

I believe dogs understand the concept of possessions.
The stuff in your purse are your possessions.
If a dog in a pack takes the bone, or stick or toy of another dog it will get attention.....
Your dog took your stuff.
The dog wanted more attention.

Maybe she was reminding you to wear the lip gloss.LOL
I can imagine your dog going back and forth from the Party to the purse, trying to find something that you like, knowing you wouldn't go anywhere without your purse and you need something out of it. I wonder if the energy you where carrying towards anyone at the party was making her feel as if she needed to help you ?

Hi Whisper,

I don't think it had to do with anyone at the party, but I have been under tremendous stress  as  my mom, who has been battling ovarian cancer for the last 6 1/2 years has just about run out of treatment options.  The cancer is progressing rapidly because for the past year and a half none of the chemotherapy drugs have worked. My mom and I have cried many tears together this past week. THe new chemo she got on Wednesday is our last hope. Wednesday was a stressful day at the oncologist office because we discussed the options my mom has left, plus first time getting a new chemo is always stressful because you never know what reactions may occur.  In addition I've recently been having some back problems which have really slowed me down and changed my activity level, although PT has started to help.  I am sure the dogs sense the stress and changes in me, both physically and emotionally, plus I've not been able to give them what I have given them in the past. After listening to the thoughts of others and thinking this through I think what happened on Wednesday night was her call for attention and she may also be somewhat distressed and confused about what is going on with me.

Thank you for your thoughts.

The best,
Char
