there is a nut lives .25 miles from me.sent me word that he was going to shoot my dog because she was a gsd.i went to him and explained face to face what would happen to him if anthing happened to my dog.he went to the law and i was informed i could not threaten a person.i told the deputy i did't. that i made him a promise.anyway he took me to court and looked like the idiot he is.told the court i harboured a vicous animal.judge asked how he came to that conclussion and he replied that it was a big gsdneedless to say the judge throwed it out.still cost me a cool grand for a lawyer.i still have her and she still runs over the acreage we own and i have not heard from the idiot since.i believe in standing up for my dog no matter what..

My condolences to Officer Pickard also, and RIP K9 Schultzie. There will be some sort of comfort/justice for as I know it, it is a Federal crime to assault, injure or kill a police K9. (I could be wrong though). So as long as one POS was caught he will be charged both state and federal. To reduce his time he just needs to rat his partner out which in turn will bring a little more justice for K9 Schultzie. And yes the threat is real for both Officers and K9s daily,
So So sorry my brother.

This is really sad, but I was wondering how did it come about that the guy was able to grab and throw the dog into traffic......Seems to me that if the dog was sent after him to make the apprehension, how was the guy able to get close enough to grab the dog and than throw him, before he was able to bite and hold? Was the dog injured?.... Not being a smart a++, but just asking an honest question.....

Both subjects are in custody $150,000 Cash Bail. The robbery of the Chinese restaurant which netted them $300 has been recovered.

Awesome!! Need to raise that bail.

The charge should carry the same punishment as killing a human Police Officer. I hope he rots in jail.

It is impossible to tell from the article, but in some PC states (like NJ) the dogs don't bite until directly ordered. They just do a bark and hold.
Some of the officers here can explain.
I sure hope that killing a Police Dog is a felony with big teeth.

Michele , know this team personally. They dont do bark and hold. Alot of questions are arising out of this in the news media and forums. Some are questioning the Officers actions on the shoulder of a hi speed highway. The driver who hit them no ID or comment. We werent there so we dont know what took place. His handler Ofc. Pickard is very competent and has been in K9 for quite awhile, and is in excellent physical condition they train constantly. Schultz scored quite high in the National Police Dog trials recently in Louisiana and was a Great Dog to be around and lived with the family. Im sure there will be alot more to come on this in the future. Ceremony for Schultz will be Dec. 9 2010 @ 1pm at vetrans park next to Police headquarters. VB

A true tragedy. My prayers go out to Officer Pickard and his fellow K9 Officers. Being a K9 Officer is a very dangerous job for both the handler and dog. This is really a shame. I am going to try to attend the ceremony and offer my support.
