Some bitches also have a very thick covering to the Vaginal opening (Hymen) which may need to be opened before she can be bred, especially if the male is uncertain and backs off @ the resistance. Some will press on and open themselves, others will not... depends on both dogs.  I had one bitch years ago whose breeding track was difficult to navigate, making a sharp turn part way in.  The vet should  be able to palpate the opening and find out if either of these issues are involved.

When in doubt the progesterone test is the way to go, especially if you have to travel to the male.

I agree with windwalker18 my friend had a bitch with this problem and had to go to vet and got the [hymen] sorted simple little op so go to vet get her checked before any one of the dogs get hurt

A good stud dog will navigate himself and a good Stud Master is worth thier weight in gold.
I have bitches that are not ready until day 32 and 1 that is ready day 17 so don't give up BUT the best tool is progesterone testing.

I doubt she is out, a lot of them don't even ovulate for 12-14 days then you still need 48 hours for the eggs to mature  then you still have 2-3 day window minus the 7 hours the sperm needs to mature.. if they cannot pull progesterone at least try ti get a smear its not as accurate but its better than nothing

sounds to me , that your female is ready, but she is a first timer and alot of first timers will do what you say your girl is doing, the instinct is there to do the whole standing but when the male touches her thats when she will pull away cause she is not sure, whats going on. i had one like this. and you could try an AI , but i would also hold her till she gets bred as she may need some help her first time, she  will be fine after the first time, my one female even had to lash back at the stud after the tie as she felt like she was raped. some of these females can be a bit funny.  and if this does not work , i would get her checked from the vet just to make sure she is big enough for a stud , some are  too small.

an AI will not fix this problem if you plan to breed her again as she will need to get use to a male breeding to her.

i woud only use AI if you have too.

i wish you luck....

Last Fall I had an issue with a female. Did the progesterone but still couldn't get a tie. As it turned out she had a small constriction. Took her to a reproduction specialist, she did a little snip and now my female is ready to be bred her next heat. The vet said this is not unsual. Hope you have success!

The bitch I just bred my male to I had similar issues with and it was her first breeding.  She'd "tease" my male every time, backing up to him, flaggin', letting him get on but then as soon as he'd get ready to do his job she'd snap at him to get him off.  I was doing everything I was supossed to and getting frustrated I couldn't get a tie.  The male I used was a proven stud dog so I knew he was not the problem so I finally just took her to the vet twice actually to run progesterone and the second time I ran it she was bred.  It was such a cake walk that I'll take out the "guess work" from now on and progesterone test every time.

If you owned both the stud and bitch it's not as much a hassle to just keep trying but if you're traveling to the stud dog it could be a pain in the butt.  The money you'd spend on gas would probably pay for your progesterone test and save you a few drives.

Let us know if you were successful in breeding her.

I would suggest you Do a pre breeding exam and yes  the progesterone tests. This will rule out anything of problem with the female and HELP pinpoint better breeding dates..but progesteron reading is not the tell all for that either just a tool. As for the male he should be examined and have a current sperm analysis and be sure he is not injured..back, neck anything like that...

Dogs have been breeding naturally for years... If we leave it up to Artificial means  they will lbe lost from that vigor and the ability to breed without assistance becomes genetic predisposition  like many many of the horse breed lines.  BARF! JMO... next thing you will be looking for an invetro mare, a wet maide, and aunt to imprint , etc.

Good luck!

Any news? Sometimes when a female aint ready she will be hard but when at peak it will happen..Some females are harder than others but a good male will get it done..Ive seen it personally we will think a female will be hard but when the male shows interest means she is ready he gets it done..A good male will tell you as well..but if you dont own a male what the others are saying above will save you time and money..progesterone testing.
