Safeguard 10% percent suspension 1 ml per 5lbs 3days

the 10 percent is the only kind they use for dogs that I know and you really only need it for serious  hooks or god forbid whips or giardia    oh they don't like how that stuff tastes, We fill a large syringe with dyne shoot some of that in their mouth once they start the swallowing reflex we give them the wormer and quickly add more dyne before they realize what happened , that way they don;t develop handler aversion regarding meds especially if you have to do it for several days.. the literal spoon full of sugar

If you are using any kind of dewormer. Weather is is panacur liquid, safe guard paste or ivomec liquid the correct dosage is .1cc per 10 lbs. Not 1cc per 25 lbs. If you give a dog that much you can kill it. I'm a vet tech and a woman gave her 50lbs dog 5cc when it should have only been .5cc had to pump his stomach and was critical on and off.

I have used ivomec for a as long as I can remember. I have a lot of dogs and have never had a problem with it. The correct dosage like I said above is .1cc per 10 lbs. I also agree with you 100% about the safeguard paste for horses.

I have a large jar of Panacur C.  It came with small packets and dosing spoons.  It was a lot cheaper than getting the pre done packets.

It is what a lot of vets use.  There is no disturbing taste and the dog laps it up readily.

Obviously, I did not have a prescription for this and I orderd it over the internet from a site that said it required a prescription.  I just placed my order and they didn't notice or care or something.

 Nowhere did I say not to use Ivermectin. I said don't use the paste, and that you can't "guess" on dosages w/it like you might be able to get away with when dealing w/fenbendazole.

Sorry everyone... It was really late and I had had a LONG day at work.... I got my numbers a tad mixed up...sorry.. I just looked up the dosage and  sflgsd is correct, it is not 1cc per 25 pounds.
Giving an adult GSD (average 90 pound male) 3+ cc (going with the original post I made of 1cc per 25#) of Safegard wouldnt do the dog any good, that is for sure. I didnt think it could kill the dog though?  Isnt .1cc per 10 pounds underdosing the puppy?

Hi Lief
It looks like I edited my post when you were typing yours..lol.

I understand that overdosing on any drug is not good.

The WORSE thing you can do with Pyrantel Paomoate or Fenbendizole is to underdosage a dog at deworming! Worms like germs can become medication resistant.

Safe-Guard for dogs is dosaged - PER SAFEGUARD website Directions: The daily dose for Safe-Guard® Canine Dewormer is 50 mg/kg (22.7 mg/lb) of body weight. Please refer to the following dosing table for help in finding the right dose for your dog.  ( http://www.safe-guard-for-dogs.com/productLabel.asp )

* 1CC/ML of the Liquid for Goat's or Cattle (100mg/ml) is equal to 4.4 lb of dog- HENCE medicine is mesured in KGs not Lbs offten. If you where to keep rounding up 5 lbs instead of the 4.4 , you would be underdosing your dogs and possibly causing resistant bugs.

1kg=2.2 lb
1ml=4.4 lb
10ml=44lb
20ml=88lb

The Bottle for goats is about $20, the larger Bottle for Cattle (1,000ml) is around $120 and will do 4,400 lb of dogs.

Safe-Guard is reccomended for 3 days in a row for most worms, and up to 5 days in a row for Giardia/Tapeworms that is resistant. It is supposed to be better than Flagyl for Giardia.

Ivermectin is a total different ball park.. and is extreamly dangerous and often packaged in different concentrations.
