This is the collar I bought from Leerburg....it has a scissors type clip.....You can tell by the price it was pretty cheap. Maybe that is why I am having the problem with it coming apart accidentally..?????
http://leerburg.com/prong.htm
I also bought the dominate dog collar from Leerburg....Leerburg recommended it for all the pinch collars in case of an accidental release. I have not used it. The first time the collar came apart I thought it was an isolated incident. The second time was just the other day. IMO this quick release collar by itself is not dependable....

Deanna, did it come apart at the clip or the links -- not that it matters I wont be buying one of those. I can't afford for it to come apart there is too much wildlife around here.

i wish i had a dollar for every time i have posted on this topic. i could quit my job & retire.
i like the tiny prong collars. i put 2 of them together plus or minus a few links for good fit. and
then use a very light lead and 2 fingers only. any more than that produces too much correction.
you put those tiny prong collars on a dog and they become very well behaved. :)
to me, its like insurance; put in place and hope you don't have to use it.

*****actually, i use a flat collar for a lot of stuff - young dogs, pups & learning new stuff. the prong
goes on much later......when they know what to do. igor just turned a year. (dog in avatar pic) he
has not experienced a correction yet - other than verbal.

ziegenfarm,,,,,Are you saying that you connect two smaller gauge pronged collars to make one long one....?

yes, those itty bitty collars made for small breed dogs. the links are only about 1/2" so they are really adjustable and you get a precise fit, unlike the large link collars. (put a link in and its too big, take one out and too tight)
i mean just that.....a light lead - cotton works well and just 2 fingers for corrections. carry ther lead between thumb and forefinger. what ever you do, don't grab the leash with your whole hand and give it a yank. if the collar is fitted correctly, only very light corrections are needed. if the dog has already been heeling in correct position, you probably won't have to make any corrections at all.
