That will be an issue going forward.  Europe does NOT tattoo anymore, only microchip.

Looks like the Orgs in the USA need to hurry up and make a decision on what to do....

Personally I don't like chips.  Studies have shown that chips can and will displace under the skin and cause lameness.  Besides the fact that big brother is watching and my doggies don't need a GPS.

Phil,

That is why.

And I do not like the idea of tattoo'ing a post 8 week old puppy.

I sent an email to Tim Burke and Michele Scarberry, asking if USA will be updating their processes to include micrchips as well as tattoos......

USA already includes microchips for ID.

Phil,

I agree with the microchip issues. My 9y/o was just rechipped because his stopped working about 2 years ago. Completely unable to find it with 5 different scanners.

As far as USA, they do use microchip for ID now. However, to dual enroll the dog through USA/SV, they still require a tattoo. Hopefully they will change this soon.

Mary,

For IDs, but not for the USA registration.  I checked.  Dog must be tattoo'd

Tim Burke responded very quickly to my request and is following up to update the process.  We did check in Europe about doing both microchips and tattoo's - no more tattoos.

I hope they update the process soon. I would prefer not to have my pup tattooed. If I have to, I will.

Thanks everyone for the responses and checking.
