I went to the GSDCA Nationals with my two last year and competed in obedience and agility. Both did very well. There were alot of really nice shepherds there. I think the working line GSDs are better suited but I think they are better suited for everything LOL!

A GSD that could not compete in agility would be a sad sight to see IMO. Congratulations to all who participate in performance sports.

My husband has done agility competitively with his GSD's for probably close to 12 years or more.. his first dog was from our breeding back when we did old american show lines.. he was the #1 GSD in AKC agility for 2 years and in the top 5 for 5 years. He was a long big dog with quite a bit of rear and front, although not like todays GSD.. he was balanced and controlled his body beautifully
MACH 3 2004 GSDCA AV KiaHaus' Diamond Rio CDX aka "Rio" is still in #6 position in AKC Topdogs in Agility MACH Competition and he has since been gone for several years. Rio won 2nd place in a 60 weavepole challenge when he was 2 at a Clean run agility camp.. 60 weavepoles in 15 seconds right behind a border collie
My husbands 2nd agility dog again from our breeding MACH3 2005 GSDCA AVx KiaHaus' Fast and Furious aka "Frenzi" is the #3 Topdog
Both dogs and his current also do USDAA agility .. which is faster times and more height and harder on a dog but with proper conditioning and maintenance it can be done....
Like his t-shirt says.. "we don't need no stinkin border collies" No offence to bc people, love my bc's just not to live with
He will never go to a World championship but they have all done plenty of Nationals, Invitationals and EsPN games.. not everyone wants to go to Worlds

"we don't need no stinkin border collies"
OOOhhhhh, Lyn. Them's fightin' words! LOL
I am strongly considering doing agility w/my spazzy girl; figured it might tire her out as much as can be expected w/a dog like her. I don't have a whole lot of time to get seriously into it, but something has to be better than nothing, I figure. I also think my little Pit would LOVE it!

I agree you don't need a border collie to do agility. Any dog can. But I sure do think I am going to have fun running my new border collie in agility. And so far she is very easy to live with, guess it must be her lines. My czech gsd didn't sleep for the first four years of her life!! This border collie pup sleeps through the night since 7 weeks old!!!
Jen you would have fun doing agility with your dogs and you don't have to get all competitive. Your dogs will love you for it!

Caleb says he's in, as long as I don't "get fat and start wearing spandex," whatever that means. If that happens, he says he's not going anywhere with me.
I'm sure Pru would LOVE it, and my bf's little Pit girl...she's an adorable, bouncy little thing who is so agile it's a waste not to do SOMETHING with her.
Sounds like you lucked out w/your BC, Lyn. And actually, w/Ceira too, if it only took 4 years to get her to sleep. Caleb is gonna be 7 and I have yet to witness him sleep. Ever. I kid you not. I think he must sleep during the day when I'm not around. Surely 7 years w/out sleep should've killed him.

The dog,
is truly a miracle of athletic wonder. I am still
impressed daily on the skills they acquirer so quickly.
My boarder collie kelpie mix does his wide cast and runs
interference while the malinois sisters play NATO war
games (roller ball). Born to run, jump and play.
Happy and content.

I had Sulcata tortoises. Tortoises are great! Mine were too stubborn for SchH though.
