I also use  canidae als grain free formula! Very pleased with it when I use it! when she does not get raw I use it with some alpo premium slices and some water! Her stools are very firm and well formed!

i know a lot of people are sold on TOTW.  i'm not.  i've used it several times, tried different formulas and been disappointed every time.  i will never again feed anything produced by diamond pet foods.   there are several better products on the market......yeah, they cost more.

Diamond not big on my list of manufacturers either.  I have occassionally fed TOTW but it is not my preference.  I do feed raw with Honest Kitchen.  When using kibble the Orijen and Evo seem to do well by the dogs.  I definitely prefer those to the TOTW brand.

The good stool/poor stool issue when using the same food is usually the result of varing ingredeients from one production run to the next.

Diamond is absolutely the poorest food I have used as far as consistent stool quality goes. It would be great with one bag and look like cow piles with the next.

Thanks for all the input. Locally all I have is a pet smart and some locally owned stores. The brands that will be convenient for me would be blue buffalo, Wellness, TOTW, solid gold, Canidae and  some others. Comments on the brands would be appreciated.

I just feed friskees cat food. The dogs love the taurine! Curious about the Blue Buffalo too. Seems like that is the best food Petsmart has to offer.

I agree Rik!    I do not trust   Diamond  at all.. Their lab veterinirian  lied to me for 4 months about loose stools on the bags I was buying 10 at a time...She finally   owned up that they had changed the formula   on The Lamb and Rice...4 months back..

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  I knew something was up . I sent her samples of 21 bags to prove to her ..it was not my dogs..

I found that in all their products over 19 years..Tried them all.

We use EVO & ORIJEN PUPPY.....the dogs are doing extremely well on them.
We used to feed National Performance Plus & Xtra (food with grain)...but had noticed the dog's stool "color & smell" was...(let's just say...YUCK..).
Have used Kirkland Super Premium (food with grain)...dogs did fine on it/have nothing negative to say about it......(my personal dog's don't have issues with most grains)....but we have concluded that the dogs look best on the EVO & ORIJEN.
We did try TOTW & a couple of others......"We were not satisfied with them".

why do you want to change to a grain free feed? his stools are runny from time to time. Is this "time to time" during the same sack of feed, if so, its not the feed. many things can cause runny stools. stress, toxic plants in the yard, floor cleaners. worms, cox, guaridia, too much food in one feeding, giving of table scraps..........etc.

feeding raw meat has caused me to rip out all of my carpets, extreme mess. feeding cooked meat would have caused the same, except that I didn't have any carpet by then....

might be a good idea to find out why he's having runny stools from time to time.
