Yes I can just see Mr. McKown on a four wheeler with a squirt bottle in one hand and a winchester rifle in the other! And please be extremely carefull where you fasten your leash to your bike! Never forward of your center of gravity! That one unexpected sudden stop will for sure send you flying  right over your handlebars ! Boy oh boy that asphalt and gravel is very effective at stripping your hide off! Not to mention the onlookers laughing their ass off at you for your acrobatic  expertise!

Yup thats me, Chuck Connors.

Actually Ray:

I could not shoot a dog I don,t think unless it were attacking me or mine. I,d still try to handle it myself. I stopped shooting coyotes about 10 years ago. maybe i,m getting soft but I don,t see the need if we shoot them all will there be any left to see in the future besides were the ones incroching on them not the other way around.

I agree with Yogi;, I'vea always just held the leash and never had a problem.

And like Bob, I'd be hard pressed to shoot someone's dog except under extreme circumstances.

carry a can of  Raid Hornet  Spray    the nozzle output goes 5 foot and it is now used by women in the vehicles to stop a preditor or an attack.

All you have to do it make a place convenient and easy to grab it and shoot towards the targeted dog or dogs approaching you.

Dollar General sells it and lot cheaper  sprays immediately and you do not have to guess which way it is going.

I carry can in vehicles and at all times on my belt. on the opposite hip of my gun

(at night on my property )  2-4 a,m in the morning no telling who or what I might encounter.

We're training for an AD too and I have the same problem as Yogie, to many other dogs and people charging or in the way.  It's not easy training an AD in the city!  We don't fit on the sidewalk and are NOT welcome in the street. I was going to train more heavily while on vacation (rural two lane highways) but then it was like 100 degrees and humid so neither I nor the dog were motivated.  I know my dog can go out any day and run and AD, he is health and fit, but the pads of his feet need work since he lives on grass and carpet.

If your dog is steady, and your neighborhood right, and your guts good, try trying the dog to the front of bike and letting them pull,. I've done it about 22 years now, only two falls, both from other dogs attacking and me ditching the bike. Its a BLAST and the dogs CAN get VERY responsible about it.

I only do it with one of my dogs these days, as she is trustworthy, but for the other heathens, I recommend a slat mill (the dog turns it themselves, no electric power and low resistance, you can turn it with one finger).  The dogs LOVE iT and go NUTS to get on it.

Here are a couple pics from last night. I have to really lock everyone down while working them or they all try and get on it at once!
