Why do you "Thank God" that it's not a German Shepherd?  I'm seeing 3 monkeys here.  TG it's not my breed, whoa we don't want anything to do with that bad nasty Amstaff breed.  The bottom line is irresponsible dog ownership is irresponsible dog ownership no matter what breed, no matter when, no matter where.  Don't pretend it's not a problem, it's a problem with ANY dog.

I agree with you 100% Phil. but you're comparing apples to oranges.  I'm glad it's not our breed because not only does it give a bad name to the breed in general, it also shows extremely poor temperament and so, bad breeding.  It has been GSDs on some occasions, and thankfully, it doesn't happen more often with our breed.  This still does not translate to "it's less tragic".   As a matter of fact, that's why I wanted to know why they're being called "attack dogs", like that's what they were trained to do.

Pit bulls ..........Bloodsport.     Dogfighting should be outlawed internationally, it's sick.

I guess the translation "attack" dog was chosen because Pits and Staffs are classified as "Kampfhunde""fighting dogs" under German law, as are a variety of other dogs. It is illegal to keep them without proper registration and a special licence with includes a proof of knowledge about dog handling. Owners of pitbulls are supposed to learn about dog handling in a "dog licence" course, however, many don't. As far as I read these pitbulls were known as aggressive dogs in their neighbourhood, should have worn a muzzle at all times (except alone at home I guess), but bylaw officers never checked in on the owner.
It was reported that grandmother and child visited the dog owners house frequently - obviously neither the grandmother nor the owner knew anything about dog behavior. Very sad.

"*Why isn't the thread title automatically filling in? What's up now?"

Because there are quotation marks in the original title.  Remove them and the topic will appear in subsequent replies.
