Moons, I think we're much more careful now than we used to be about things that might be harmful to ourselves or the environment. Remember Rachel Carson's Silent Spring?  THOSE were the 'bad old days'!

I hope we never reach the point where the drug companies' bottom line takes precedence over safety. I'm reasonably confident that there have been enough disasters in the past (e.g., thalidomide) to prevent that from happening.

Seriously?  I think you'd be hard pressed to find an instance where the bottom line didn't take precedence.  Just in the past few years I can think of Vioxx/Bextra, more recently Avandia (500 heart attacks and 300 heart failures caused per MONTH), a vaccine that was in safety tests for 5 weeks and billions of dollars spent to purchase it before it was produced, then given to the masses.

Or take Pfizer and their ghostwriters.  Yeah, pay a thousand bucks and some "expert" researcher will slap his name on the study calling it safe and effective.  Or better yet, look up Scott Reuben, he was hired to not only use his name, but flat out just make up studies.  Make up the names of participants, make up the data, make up the outcome, and then present it for approval.  He's not the only one, and that was just in the past year or two.

Those are just off the top of my head, take a minute and check on each topic, read for yourself.  If you think this ended with thalidomide, you've got some catching up to do.

Zdog: YIKES!

[sigh]

Guess I seem pretty naive. Most of what I've read lately about drugs has been about the sometimes heroic efforts to get needed drugs onto the market, and how difficult and expensive it can be.

Im not above vaccinations and do beleive in science. Howver i science is still a game of percentages and little is absolute in its relative realm.

However back to topic at hand- it amazes me that i can vaccinate for rabies until 3 years of age and titer ever year following far above the need of antibodies without needing further shots. It is simply greed and politics that motivate the over vaccinations in both dogs and other species.

Not only the topic previously brought up about the spay and nueter everything people but i would bet you will find links to many of the cancerous and or other newly developed chronic diseases can be linked to the over vaccinations and early spay/neutering of dogs.

I remember the original post, just can't figure out the edits.

Also trying to figure out deleted posts by individuals and lost threads.

Not to impressed with the floating ad for a survey either Oli.

It's like Monday all over again.
