VomRuiz

Hi Steve,
Unfortunately the club I train with now is at a public park. Dogs pooping everywhere and some owners don't even pick it up so I didn't take either Indi or Lina to the club until they were fully vaccinated.
I am also against dog parks. Too much chance of them catching a disease, fleas, worms or getting into a fight. Besides I want my dogs to be more interested in me than other dogs. I only let my own dogs play together supervised and for short periods at a time, and only so they are social with each other.  Even with that I am very careful, especially with the puppies, since I don;t want the older dogs playing too rough with the puppies, even though Lina is already almost as big as Indi, I don't want any accidents, so those two have never played together (with the exception of the rug & crate story I told you, hahaha!) Indi is very dominant and Lina seems to be that way too, so maybe soon I will have Matt help me and introduce them on leashes so we have full control.
Thanks for the advice
Stacy

Stacy, all going well on me getting out there we can work the dogs together. We can help each other out since I have the boys that need to get along.

It will be good for them. I have people out here with males who would be happy to oblige, but I don't trust them to hold on to their leashes. LOL

Yes, I did receive a follow up phone call.  I would have to dig through the stuff when I brought her over to remember exacty what the guidelines were.  I do remember the 30-days after vacination.   She had quite a bit of socializing without going all over the place to do so.  I'm not one to let my pups play with all the big dogs anyway.  She has turned out fine, many have commented on how solid she is around new places and situations.

Remember, this is the same time frame that if your pup happens to be exposed to a scary, bad situation it can affect it negatively for a long time also.   My male that went camping with me at that age took longer to get over the stupid people with their pack of loose dogs then did my female that had limited "socialization" until she was a bit older.  And yes I was being extremely careful with him!

Hi Animules,
Thanks for replying, Besides the chance of picking up parasites or disease, I wondered too,  with it being within the time frame that they are sometimes insecure and  can be easily spooked/startled and take awhile (weeks, months, years)  to recover- If it might not be a good idea to take them too many places.

Dre Stylez

I was confronted with the same problem! I didn't socialize my guy until he was cleared and he did suffer from the lack of socialization. It was a long and hard process to succesffuly socialize him which took about 2-3 months of constant trips to petsmart and to other dog friendly places. The hard work and determination did pay off and he is now amazing with strangers and he loves little kids :) Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the input Dre. My dogs are raised with my kids and family member's kids, so they have never  had a  problem with children either, which is great :-)
I knew there were pros and cons for the dog (and each dog reacts differently to new situations)  when confining for the required time and just wanted to see what other's experiences were as far as socializng. Apprecite your response
Stacy
