Great posts!! Very informative. I also received a great PM that confirmed my beliefs about neutering.I worked at a vet clinic and the one vet kept asking me when she can neuter my dogs.I told her if she came near my dogs with a scalpel I would beat the crap out of her.lol I noticed more dogs that came in with health problems were neutered.(females as well) I am a responsible owner and my dogs don't just roam.(that is one of my pet peeves about the people around this town) My one little mutt dog needs to get the nuggets snipped cause he is a one nut wonder. As for the GSDs they are healthy and I don't have a female for them to oops with. Even if I did have a female they wouldn't be with her. Personally I see no reason to alter an animal if there is no reason to,as in health problems. I think that alot of health issues can be related to environment and food. Genetics is a factor as well but just like hip issues you can have the best dam and sire and when the cards are dealt one of the pups has some health issue that the parents didn't have. I don't like to be told by someone (PETA or other organizations) that I HAVE to neuter my dogs.
Thanks for the posts. Good to hear other peoples views and experiences.

Neutering dogs alters hormonal balance in most such dogs (I did not say in all such dogs).
It is harmful to such most dog and by upsetting hormonal balance. If done early it will upset development of sexual dimorphism and that besides many other effects may lead to increased to male x female aggression. Most such dogs will get over weight , loose drive and sharpness of many natural instincts and die prematurely. To people who says it is not the truth I'll say; then why I can recognize neutered dog who had been neutered for more then 3 or so years just by looking at them from 10 ft away that they are neutered.
If you can not keep intact dog then maybe you should not have one. Think about it! You are actually physically altering a dog because you are not able to take care of it other wise. That is a definition of cruelty in my book. The fully thing is that this is a same crowd of people who is often against cropping ears and docking tails which is actually good for the dogs.

What a bunch of crap that it reduces testicular cancer. To that argument, I say "no shit."
Let's forget that it PREDISPOSES them to TYPICALLY FATAL prostate cancer! Convenient fact they forget when recommending the extinction of testicles. Testicular cancer can be cured by neutering if it occurs.
I now ask, what do they suggest to prevent brain tumors?

I believe that if the dog is over a certain age there are no real benefits to neutering unless the dog is having aggression issues . Most of the people I work with are not dog trainers so it makes it easier for them to control their dogs. And I would rather have the dog be snipped over loosing his home. I have both neutered and intact. If the dogs get along and there are no health issues, then why upset the apple cart. Well now it just costs me more and inspections from Animal Control every year.

I would ask you GSDtravels do you rescue? Because until your down at the shelter on days that the dogs are in the oven and the smoke from their bodies is thick in the air, its easy to make comments about "going along" with the ordinance. Ive had to watch nice dogs be put down because they were at the shelter for too long. And yet puppies are still being pumped out like rabbits. And Ive known breeders who have dumped dogs at the shelter so these are not just byb.
Its not optimal I do believe that we all must be a solution and not just worry about our own dogs.

No, Bhaugh, I don't rescue, I wouldn't be able to stop. The only response I can possibly give is to copy a quote that was posted on another thread by Hans:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." --
Benjamin Franklin
