Sorry "mrawle" that I missed your question. I haven't been spending much time on the database lately, as my dog was put to sleep and it ached too much to come here. Please feel free to mention the dogs you need info on.

Dear Jantie, I can't tell you how sorry I am about the loss of your dog. -- Molly (mrawle)

I appreciate that Molly, thank you. It will take some time to digest it. Having to kill what you love is atrocious. A comment I received just a couple of days ago, for those people who judged me "to be a murderer" (because I did not put him in a wheelchair or let THEM take "better care" of him: >>That is a severely dysplastic femur head and socket...It looks like it could easily dislocate because the socket is so open and the femur head is deformed...and arthritic from what I can see.. One side looks pretty good, and even though the positioning is not ideal, still the dysplastic hip joint is very evident. They would have to replace the socket and femur head to give the dog any kind of painfree life.. That surgery is very painful and requires a long time for recuperation which is difficult for a large breed dog to remain quiet enough physically for it to heal.. Often a very powerful hindquarter musculature and ligamentation will hold the leg in position, but with that socket, sooner or later, i would think, one false step by that dog and it could dislocate and the pain would be excruciating!!! I think Jan did the right thing, personally, from what I can see of the x-ray..it is difficult to just see a photo without seeing the dog, etc...but i would think, from this x-ray, this dog was in Serious trouble, with no good outlook for the future....<<

There is no way to associate a hip score to a hip rating. There are many 'a' normal dogs with scores over 100. Let the ZW system be a guide as it's intended to be. There are a few websites that have good explainations of the system. Try a search and see what you get. The SV site may still have their explaination.

Forget the HD ZW, if you find only a couple of x-rayed individuals. Search for ZW scores of littermates of parents and grandparents, if there are any. If you have x-rays, send them to me. I will arrange for an expert opinion, and an unbiased one. What is fine in Germany, might look completely different elsewhere.

Hi Jantie, You are not a murderer, and don't you even start apologizing. You did the right thing that actually requires courage as opposed to cowardly prolonging Indiana's suffering just to show how "caring" you are. Indy's story brought out the true colors of people on this board, and Stephen (in his reply to your In Memoriam) has expressed feelings of many-many people on your side the best, there was nothing really to add. I am sure you remember what he said even though the thread is gone...
