French National Championship.  It is the national conformation show. 

You must realize, the lackenois variety has a very small gene pool.  As in all varieties, working dogs tend to come out of certain lines, like Opium v Krekebos.  Again...the gene pool is small, which gives you a smaller number of working dogs.

Belgian Shepherds is the breed....varieties are the terv, gronendael, malinois, & lackinois.  Only in the US are they registed as different breeds in AKC.(UKC registers them as one breed, four varieities, and the shows are european style conformation shows.)  In AKC( Due to them being one breed,) generations upon generations of the one variety may be bred and another variety will pop up.  If using a French dog for stud, say it is a terv...once he is registered in the stud books with AKC, all dogs produced by that dog in the US can only be registered as tervs.  If a gronendael is imported sired by that terv, it will not be registered as a gronendael, due to the sire registered with AKC as a terv!!  This is all thanks to the AKC parent clubs and will probably never change!
