The answer is....

YES!

If both the sire and the dam carry the gene for white coats, then white puppies are possible. The AKC considers white to be a DISQUALIFYING DEFECT.  I beg to differ, but it's their game so they get to make the rules.

That said, if your friend needs a loving home for her white GSD pup, I would be willing to consider adoption. I am experienced with white GSDs having had two. I would certainly NOT want to see a pup euthanized simply because it expressed the recessive white gene....
