This was a tragic case of a beloved pet stolen and later horribly killed for no reason other than the whims of two stupid, selfish and cruel people, Melissa Lockhart and her brother Steven Romero in Fruita Colorado. When people would do this to a dog, the odds are excellent that sooner or later they will do it to a human being. The maximum penalty for animal cruelty on federal land (where it happened) is 3 years in prison, $100,000 fine and 1 year supervision. There may be an additional penalty for the aggravated part; there usually is. I haven't looked it up. Romero remains in jail.

She should be locked up with him, IMHO she's just as guilty and maybe more-so than he is, after all she is the one who stole the dogs and then asked him to dispose of him. Hopefully the authorities will tack on the theft and obstruction charge in addition to cruelty charges and sentence them consecutively instead of concurrently.
