Thank you all for your very kind words. I got her from a GSD rescue group in Kentucky. She was originally picked up by animal control somewhere outside of Lexington. Poor girl has two shotgun pellets in her. I feel very blessed to have this special girl. I am taking her for her CGC and therapy dog eval in January and providing we pass, I know she will put smiles on many faces

ziegenfarm, What you said really interests me because she clearly doesn't resemble either German or American showline GSDs. I've always thought she most closely resembled the structure of  working line GSD because there was nothing extreme about her structure that I could see, BUT she CLEARLY doesn't have the working line drives.  Where can I find out more about these old herding lines? If you have anymore thoughts I'd love to hear them.

hi,
i just want to say , your not alone, my girl is a great example of the old style herding shepherd.
she is excellent for herding too.
she is a great working temp.
but  she is 100% german showlines.
she also has the  coarse herding coat, whick i dont  see any more.

Bea,
Your girl is really beautiful and she has such a nice expression! I can definitely see the similarities and she reminds my a lot of my girl, but I think your girl is put together better than mine- much better topline, among other things .

starrchar, I'm not good at giving a critique, that's why I just said what I said. I don't do the shows at all.

kelly,
Oh, ok! I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were just trying to be diplomatic and I just wanted you to know that I am ok with criticism, no matter how bad. I'm not good at all at giving a critique, but reading the critiques of various dogs, including my own, is very helpful.
The best,
Char

i found this pic of an older style herding dog
they were bred for function and this structure
served that purpose.
some years back, i had a female out of
matzo kirschental.  she was built like this
and had the langstockhaar coat.
nothing wrong with those herding dogs.
they truly were working dogs.  and here
is a link of interest:
