That's really neat!!!

Good for you & Jetta!

My younger sister was on Dogs 101, with her chihuahua's, she had all 3 sitting in a row, and her daughter & grand-son were in it too, the chihuahua was in the baby carriage, it was really weird seeing a family member on TV.

Hope the politician turns out to be a big hit, everyone loves a doglover!

Thanks everyone. It was not boss Daley and not as big of a positon as him but it is up there. The commercial will air during the last 2 weeks of Jan. If this politician wins I hope to meet him again and get a pic with him and Jetta. I am sure he will get lots of votes from the dog lovers out there and especially from the shepherd lovers. I will be able to get a copy of the filming but not until after the elections. I am not working right now (layed off) so the money will sure help with dog food and some extra treats for her.

Thanks again everyone and I can't say how exciting this is for the breed itself. Temperment and training is so important and I am glad my girl has all that and more.

Wow, she really looks proud of herself.  Congratulations, she's a nice representation of this beautiful breed.  Can I ask how you taught her to bark on command?  What was your technique?  I have tried everything with my german boy and he WILL  NOT BARK ON COMMAND.  i  really feel I need this for protection when I want it, not when he wants to do it.  You know what I mean.  Thanks in advance for the info.

Thank you. I use food as a pup and tease them with it and hold it away from them and say the command to bark and as soon as they bark they get the reward, I do this over and over until they understand. I use the ball or whatever he/she loves as they get older. My 7mo old knows how to bark on command also.

In regards to using the bark command in protection, I would not do that, the dog needs to bark on it own while working with the helper if he doesn't then it is the helper that needs to teach the dog to bark,  no bark commands come from the handler since it could cause the dog to look at you and not bark on it own.

. I teach the bark command at home and never use it on the protection field. JMO

Thanks for the info;  I have taught this bark command and hand signal to every dog I have owned for the past 10 years;  I still cannot get this boy to bark on command.  Either the geb lout, bark, hand signal, smile pretty, show your teeth, mean doggy, nothing.  He won't do it.  That is why I was curious if your technique might be something new.  I can get all of my other dogs to do it, it sounds like an orchestra;  but he still won't.  I have used them for examples in front of him and he still wont do it.  My current trainer said she knows an Executive level dog that doesn't bark, he just goes for it with his right command, whatever that might be without any barking or showing of teeth of warning.  I do not want that, I would be happy with simply the quiet hand signal to bark.  But he still won't do it.  Thanks though, appreciate the info.  Nanci

Great job!  You should be really proud of Jetta & yourself.  Maybe one day we'll see her in a movie!
Congrats!

I live in Chicago. Whereabouts was this filmed? Was it Lakeview or Irving Park? Is it for the Cook (CROOK) County Board?
It would not be Daley's house......No bodyguard's or undercover police!

This is cool for you and the dog!

What a blast! Post a link to it when it comes out!

Thanks, it was in the Lincoln Square area and no it is not for Crook County Board or at the Daley's house. This house was being renovated and the filming was in the kitchen.
