If an animal or human has a B12 deficiency, and they are given an injection of B12, they will feel instantly much, much better. If there is no deficiency, the truth is, any effect one feels is just placebo. B12 depo has a very short half life of 24hrs at the most. That's why most load it, and then take injections EOD or every three days. With the B12 product below, injections can be more spread out.

It's an injectable. It say's for oral use only for legal reasons. The bottle will last you a long time.

Most B12 injectables are 1000ug/mcg per ml/cc. I would give a grown GSD a minimum of 2cc. A very weak and safe dosage would be 1/2 cc per 10kg.

The best B12 line ever, is in the Movie "North Dallas Forty". When the big lineman is going berserk, the trainer exclaims, "I have to ease up on the B12 Shots".

Like anything else used as a fad, it really should not be used for anything but a B12 defeciency - it is rare a dog would have a true B12 defeciency - anyone who would put their animal on something they do not medically need is trying to obtain something that the dog does not have genetically or in training or handling abilities.

No responsible vet is going to give you this for performance enhancement.  There are side effects, its not without risk.  It can also cause itchy skin.  As dogs cannot tell us how they feel, giving them something they are not defecient in, is foolhardy.

Precautions and Side Effects

Vitamin B12 is essentially non-toxic but it should not be given to animals with known hypersensitivity to it or to cobalt. Anaphylactic shock and death have been reported in humans following administration of vitamin B12 by injection.

Drug Interactions

A number of drugs are known to affect the absorption of vitamin B12, including neomycin, potassium chloride, p-aminosalicylic acid, and colchicine.
