My teenaged sons and I were roughhousing in the house - yes my mom would have spanked my butt had I done it in her house. My older son has been practicing tiechee(sp?) and was asking me to try to knock him down. We were having a blast until the dogs decided that we where going to get hurt and both shepherds looked at each other and darted inbetween us and seperated us.They wanted to make sure that everything was OK!  We laughed and pushed the dogs out of the way.

The didn't want to hurt us, the just didn't want us to hurt each other.......I can only imagine what they would do if a strainger attacked!

Yes, we have the bestest dogs!

SITASMOM....

Those  strangers would be ASSLESS!

My husband says "take a dog" when I go out and about for errands.............funny how people are really "respectful" when they see a trained, full grown GSD by your side........

Assless - yup, that's about right!

While Simon is the first GSD (DDR) I have ever owned, my childhood neighbors had one. Whenever, my older brother and me played football with their kids of similar ages, the gsd "Yankee" would tackle us as we got near the kids.

We owned Retriever breeds for 30 years, wonderful dogs which they truely are and no other breed had entered our minds in those years except the for the GSD that lingered in the background. After the passing of our eldest lovely old Retriever boy we decided to try a GSD. In the 2 1/2 years of owning a GSD and experiencing their fine qualities, we are completely converted in a dog that we will "never" own anything but a GSD in the future. We only wish that we hadn't wasted so much of our lives without one. Every desire required in a dog, the GSD has them all.

Love this post.  My two are both the 'old fashioned' type, which is the only type I've ever owned,
Straight backed, solid, a 'leg at each corner' and oversized. They would be laughed out of any 'inspection' class. My current two are absolutely 'in tune' with me, my OH and each other, my older girl is wise and sweet, but can suss out people in a flash.  The youngster is still a happy womble, but then, sheps can be slow to mature :)
But I do wonder sometimes about the future of our showline sheps, when the breed standard (in the UK anyway) calls for such angulation of the hindquarters that youngsters have a dreadfully awkward, frogging gait that doesn't always correct itself properly at maturity.  There's a huge backlash against some showline types over here that the Kennel Club are revising some of the aspects of the breed standard in the interests of the breed.  Things can go too far.
Give me a solid, old fashioned type any day

This was my wanna be german shepherd.
English setter on the outside but a GSD at heart. She was a little backwards but she tried her best. She'd let you in the gate and house and was sweet as could be but when you turned to walk out she was all over you like a GSD on a criminal. She had a bark that sounded like german shepherd and wasjust as loyal as one. She was on guard 24/7. I'm hoping my new little gsd will be just like her (in heart)

Pic was taken just before we had to put her to sleep.
