I do see how the dog is spinning...but looks to me as if he has just found a clever way to avoid the stick (weapon). But to me he shows no sign of being scared of the stick. Of course his behavior does not look good on the competition field, but is this really all that matters?

M
y point is that if this were a real life situation and the stick was a real weapon or knife, then would the dogs actions to avoid the weapon not be helpful and even save his life? Its not like he is releasing to avoid the weapon, in that case I would understand why he might lack courage Smart dog if you ask me....but I am stil learning myself. This is just what I took from the video. Please correct me if I am wrong....

Kelly,

When training for sport a dog looses points for any sign of weakness or fault in the routine. A judge gauges your dog against the optimum performance he can give and deducts for any waiver of that performance. A truely courages dog gets madder when he is striked ever so slightly and even madder if you hurt him. A dog with less courage and pain tolerance will try to think of a way to avoid the strike and any pain.

In a personal protection trained dog you want him to attack the arm with a weapon or chest or back of the shoulder if the person is running away from the dog. The higher and closer to the neck the better. ( my opinion )

Some police dogs in other countries  focus the bite on the crotch so there is very little fight from the perpitrater.

Personal protection dogs are trained to protect a life, not scored on a routine. He is trained in as many real life situations as you can think of and to react to any sign of aggresion. The sleeve is meaningless to a protection dog. He only takes it because it is the first thing he can reach. He rips it off and keeps coming he does not carry it around as a prize.

I would not want that dog protecting me or my family when it got down to life and death that dog would pack up and leave. I want a dog that they can kick and punch and he keeps getting madder and biting harder. The slaps that dog is dodging are not enough to hurt him any way.

Remeber when the going gets tough the tough keep going, the weak run for cover or get the heck out of the way.

just my thoughts, mahon

I think they should all be taught to bite the crotch. Then if they even thought you had a dog, they would be on the ground with hands out and legs spread. If you have to send your dog, he should be allowed to do real damage without the handler being afraid of recrimnations.

Female would be my choice as you have a male...dont need testosterone worries....too much dog for two males to run together without you playing alfa   30/7      get my drift.>?
