Sam..
My apologies than. Your tone was antagonistic. I responded in kind.

What the GSD NEEDS, is Far more than I or you can offer.
It needs a  NEW Collective,  Guild If you will, of like minded people who will NOT Compromise about the GSD, its standard and working ability.  It was set forth by Max and that should be honored.

Sport Competition Ruins Dogs. Max said it himself.  SchH needs a NEW Working test, for Working Dogs. Make it Pass/Fail, no Points and reintroduce the test of old (Scaled jumps, Hits, Gunfire etc), or similiar to it. Bring back the breed warden, Ban all of those that dont follow Strict procedure. Simple.
Germany still does this with their hunting Breeds..ie Drahthaars, Pudelpointers, Kurzharrs  Jagds and Dachshunds via The Breed Clubs.  The GSD Needs a new Steward. Status quo is unacceptable.

'Breeding in quantities must always become a curse to the breeder, because it leads him along the wrong path and deprives him of all real joy in his breeding. Finally, it leads - and this is a further and very real danger for breeder and for the race - to breeding for business considerations only.
It follows from the name, that this has nothing more to do with the dog-lover, or with the utility of the dog-race, and not even with SPORT, which indeed has only been too often advanced as a cloak for such practices.  -Max

"The breeding of shepherd dogs is the breeding of working dogs; and this must always be the aim, or we shall cease to produce shepherd dogs'   -Max

In order to have any chances of success at Exhibitions, breeding must be effected on a large scale; which can only be done in a regular Kennel. But breeding on a large scale and in a Kennel is the ruin of all sound shepherd dog breeding.

Sooo.... Would more people please answer my original question? Save your rants for other threads. Is it common to pay (as a member) a yearly dues as well as a daily training fee?

by Sam Spade on 03 August 2009 - 13:08

If you belong to a "Club"  I don't see why you would pay a "daily" fee unless you guys had to import a non-member helper.  I know that helpers can sometimes be scarce, so a club may have to lure a good outside helper with money.  But if you guys are paying a club member money, that is not a club.  How is that a club?  I could see a club waiving a helpers dues because they put in a lot of hard work, but to me that is not a "club" or the helper is not part of the club if he is paid.  Do you pay the TD?  Do you pay the "Club contact person?

Two clubs i belong to  dues are $200 per year for full member $100 for associate member.  no training fee per session.  that is probably at the lower end of the spectrum for cost to belong to a club.  Another club near me the dues are $400 per year  if you dont belong to the club they charge a fee of $20 per dog to work your dog.  I am not a member there but I periodacally will go over ther and get a dog worked or two.  That club has some higher expenses and that is passed on to the club members.  It really depends where in the country you are and what the clubs expenses are in central Ill were pretty lucky in that regard.

The club I belong to now and every club I have ever belonged to charges an annual membership fee, never an additional training fee.   Of course there are additional charges if people wish to participate in seminars, but even those are at a lower rate for club members.

Ugly:  No where did he say schutzhund trials are the ruination of the breed.   You had a very  bad experience with one person, one club, you got mad because the organization didn't do what you wanted, and now you take every opportunity to bad mouth the entire organization.

We have an annual fee for members but a per session fee for non-members (which ends up being a LOT of they come often, so either we make good money, or they knuckle down and join!).  Sometimes our trainer has additional sessions privately so we pay for those since it is in addition to the club sessions.

We don't have alot of over head at our club - so our fee's are a one time join of 100 and 20 a month - of course our president cuts the grass....

just curious - Uglydog - you belong to my club?  your gripe seems very familiar.....lol

Happyday.

The club I just joined, my first, charges a $100 dollar membership fee and $60.00 per quarter.

Seemed reasonable to me.
