I say dog. The big cats glide, and work twilight hours to move about. This dog has a "choppy" gait and is out in broad daylight. Big cats prey on birds, squirrels, fish, frogs, rabbits, ect.........not really back door neighborhood day hunters.

Its back and tail were waaayyyy too long to be a dog, its head short and rounded like a cat's, and the gait only looked choppy when it first started walking alongside the rail tracks. This looked like it was filmed in the evening, when cats start getting out and about to roam at night.

I could not download the video properly but from the very short "excerpts" I managed to see I agree with Xaver's owner - I think it is a dog, mainly because of its movement and the way it carries its tail.

I say cat also and agree with either panther or jaguar. The animal paces like a cat.
I also think it's un-neutered and patrolling it's territory boundary.
A dog would travel down the side or the center of the tracks maybe but not walk the rail. Rail walking is typical cat behavior.
The beginning of the clip shows the animal moving away from the tracks toward the bushes with the tail wagging. It stops and turns briefly in the bushes to face the tracks, then returns to the track and moves along walking the rail. There's no sniffing about, investigating like a dog or canid would marking territory or simply leaving a fresh pile. Also no scuffing of the feet after. Very typical of a cat walking territory boundaries to turn, walk deliberately to a known marker post, spray and go back to its' walk.
Just my .02

Looks like a big house cat. Based on it's size in relation to the track and gravel area looks like a regular black cat to me.

I'd have to agree with Jim on this one. Looks like a big black housecat to me. Unless the tracks in Scotland use rails that are at least eighteen inches high, and I am sure they do not, the cat is only a large housecat. Yes, it carries its tail rather high for a cat, but I have seen lots of housecats that walk along as this cat was doing, with their tails elevated. Also, this cat doesn't have the grace and smooth flowing action of a big cat...It's definitely not a dog, and it's not a big cat. Just my opinion, Margaret.
