@SitasMom,
Longcoats coming from two shortcoats will be in the longcoat-breedingbook as well.
@dcw,
There is Kalle vom Welzbachtal, http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/63936.html, who was very successful in national and world competitions, and I know a lot of other excellent longcoat working dogs.
In fact you don´t see too much of them in high- class competitions as it wasn´t possible to breed with them and they aren´t able to get the "Körung" yet. So you couldn´t earn much money with the longcoats even when they were excellent workers.
It´s just a fairytail that longcoats are more calm and have less drive as shortcoats. There isn´t any evidence that character features and working qualities are genetically combuined with the length of the hair.
And there are even showline- longcoats that can be good workingdogs! (Xander did SchH3 97-94-97 and IPO3 98-92-96 in a competition with only workingdogs)
