I think that it may be a good idea to invite David Payne to become the editor of the magazine.  With his knowledge of the breed and his ability to identify what needs to be done and how to resolve it the magazine may become exactly what everyone would like it to be.   What about it David?

Hi John,

Yes, I agree with you, that I - or anyone ould have written a promotional piece regarding the Mag on the board - to gain interest for people to buy it, or add comments to it, or advertise in it....... you and I know, it is sorely needed if the Mag iis to survive.

I hope that even this thread has now given people food for thought on all the comments above. I hope it sells a few magazines even....

I have taken unsold Mags to shows and" my little grandson has been off selling them to bring in revenue, and hopefully catch the eye of some-one that ordinarily wouldnt have had the mag, and get them to subscribe, but it needs to be a forward thinking Mag - an unbiased Mag on personal issues, and needs to envelope much more of an audience some how.

To be honest, and this point is very sad.   If I had been asked to promote the Mag on this board, all I could have thought of is that we have only one UK Mag for our breed in the UK - we dont want to have none, so can we all support it.

Thats not enough.   I personally dont want new comers to the Mag to have to sit back having read it and think," Wow - that person mustnt like that other person..... wonder who they are"  because if these new comers to the Mag start visiting shows, they will be seeking out people just to find out what the basis of the dislikes are between each other, and thats not a good start to the Mag.  Neither is it a good start for the breed again, there is enough vitreol flying around.

Can you just imagine what would happen in the Our Dogs newspaper if Vince Hogan decided he and his staff didnt get on, so they all threw comments into the Magazine about each other...... hmmm    I dont think so.

David makes two points above.....his second and third paragraph.  This needs to be addressed, and answered in a non personal way if possible -  I know that David doesnt take the Magazine as has been pointed out, but he did,do and if he found it not enlightening enough to spend his money on, and annoying - why on earth would he subscribe.  We have to take that on board, and look at the reasons why and be open minded enough to hope that this is not why the magazine is not thriving.   Members point rgarding the SV magazine is also very valid.
Seems to me enough people are interested in the positive way to get the Mag back on its feet, so lets throw the newsy bit back to the board whilst the Magazine content is looked at, and ask anyone on the board, that have interersting GSD articles to come up with, to send them in for print.   Then they perhaps should come before the panel for inclusion, so that others are not offended by being left out etc -    just a thought.     Mo - Mascani.

what about breeders with web sites promoting it on their sites and also telling potential puppy owners about it  as far as content is concerned i would say it needs to be more mixed with all sides of the breed involved but like everything else the mag needs people to write in

Hi Jim h and all

I used to show the Mag to ALL puppy people and either give them a Mag Subscription form or contact details of the Editor. That was UNTIL the Magazine Editor allowed a person under KC investigation for cheating to use the Magazine FOR A TOTAL OF NO LESS THAN FOUR CONSECUTIVE MONTHS as a PERSONAL PLATFORM for SELF VINDICATION whilst at the same time openly VICTIMISING and even BY NAMING those who had reported them to the KC.

I was one of these people named and victimised AND MY CRIME? BEING ONE OF THE PEOPLE TO HAVE THE GUTS TO REPORT TO THE KC  THE ANTICS OF PEOPLE WHO WERE ONLY TOO WILLING TO TRY YET ANOTHER METHOD OF  CHEATING IN ORDER TO ATTAIN A KC CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE AT A SHOW WHERE THEY OTHERWISE WOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO DO SO WITHOUT CHEATING.

So whilst I and the others kept quiet allowing the KC to complete their investigation the BC Mag Editor allowed this person to continue their VENDETTA via the MAGAZINE. After 3 months of this I rang to complain to the Editor but got NO JOY WHATSOEVER, Indeed I was spoken to abrutly with the Editor apparently failing to understand why I was complaining about this?!! Weigh that one up if you can!! Surprised as some of you might be to learn that I WAS A BC PANEL member then, just the same as I still am now, and whereas I still subscribe to the Mag myself, needless to say I NO LONGER PROMOTE IT TO THE PET PEOPLE WHO COME TO MY HOME TO SEE MY DOGS or PUPS, and WHO CAN BLAME ME!!

Mo, Is absolutely right when she says the Mag should rise above inter personal attacks between individuals. It;s bad enough having to put up with it on this board, without having invade your home through your letter box in an Official Breed Publication.  Over the years I have tried many times to STOP this kind of CONTROVERSY coming into our Magazine by asking for FULL PANEL APPROVAL before submitting any SENSITIVE and/or CONTROVERSIAL Articles, Letters or anything else into our Magazine, indeed it was even put into BC Panel Rules (which doubtless most of the current Panel members have never recieved a copy of thus are totally oblivious to the fact that any rules even exist !!) even then the person recieving the articles etc has to be capable of decyphering what IS, COULD or SHOULD be deemed PERSONAL, SENSIVETIVE and/or CONTROVERSIAL to put forward for FULL PANEL APPROVAL before printing and if they cannot do this successfully then we are ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE PERSONAL THINGS IN OUR MAG.

i remember the case you are talking about sue and well done or having the guts to see it thru we need more people like you to stand up and be counted when it comes to ridding the breed of cheats liars and fraudsters i know that the editor should not have allowed the person to talk write or say anything about the case but in the end it did not help him anyway but you are right to be spoken to like you say is below the belt and i can see where you are coming from but dont you think that to give up now would mean that these people win even tho they lost if you see my meaning,,, we need everyone to pull together to bring this breed forward and back to the good old days for us all to put aside our differences for the foreseeable future get the mag running properly get the BC to start to order change from the KC get the name changed to gsd only, get the accredited gsd breeders up and running stop all the jiggery pokery at shows lets promote honest judges which in turn promotes a happy atmosphere around the rings which in turn will bring more and more people back to the ring and will also encourage more new faces imo all of these things are well within the capability's of the GSD enthusiasts.

Jim h: The Breed Council needs changes, the Magazine needs changes, before there can be any real progress. There is one particular change which involves both, which if avoided will certainly condemn both.

Can i ask you David if this change was made do we have an able person or persons to take over the reigns because if not then we are back to square one    changes are needed we can all see that but these changes must be made for the better and not for any ones personal gratification (and i am not meaning anyone in particular) problems are solved by getting to the root but it has to be the right root.

Jim, above you said: -

"... can see where you are coming from but dont you think that to give up now would mean that these people win even tho they lost if you see my meaning,,, we need everyone to pull together to bring this breed forward and back to the good old days ..."

and I couldnt agree more. As for giving up, surely you havent seen any sign of defeatism from me lately, have you? Although I am regulary close to it, not because I stop caring or stop wanting things to change for the better, both for the breed itself and for the genuine hobby enthusiasts but as I have said many times before, there is only so much head banging on that darned, perverbial brick wall (ouch), one is prepared to take before deciding enoughs, enough !!!  So, call this my final push, last ditch attempt, my very own Robert the Bruce (if at first you dont succeed) 'Spider' moment, call it whatever you flipping well want but whatever its called or whoever it is refering to, NO ONE person can do ANY OF IT BY THEMSELVES. It takes ALL of us Working as a Team to achieve our goals. ALL 'PULLING TOGETHER', that truly is the key.

Its one thing to Talk the Talk but what the Breed really needs are those prepared to Walk the Walk and unless your Clubs Breed Council representatives good intentions actually amounts to more than a gasp of Hot Air then the necessary changes required to start making a better future for the breed and all of us will never, ever materialise.

Now is the time to grasp the nettle, there will never be a better time to make changes required for a brighter future.Stop moaning about the things that dont happen , if you want things to change then you ALL HAVE A VOICE, USE IT, MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! Can you do that? We'l soon see !!

Hi Sue,

You write....

Over the years I have tried many times to STOP this kind of CONTROVERSY coming into our Magazine by asking for FULL PANEL APPROVAL before submitting any SENSITIVE and/or CONTROVERSIAL Articles, Letters or anything else into our Magazine, indeed it was even put into BC Panel Rules (which doubtless most of the current Panel members have never recieved a copy of thus are totally oblivious to the fact that any rules even exist !!)

Well, I or one have to say   "What Breed Council Panel Rules " So there you go..... right again.  I will ask Sheila to send me a copy.
some time ago  subscribers had been very upset by an article written, about themselves in the mag and actually wrote to me as a panel member asking why it had been printed  !   I was as wise as them, and at that point asked - at a panel meeting - that any controversial, or personal issues should go to the panel first for approval to print.  This was not acceptable to Sheila, as it was more work.   I feel that panel, now has to be more structured, and has to have a "business head" on rather than a few people meeting in a room with no minutes and no agenda.....
Mo.  Mascani.
