Excellent avitar.
If they turn up the volume to cover up the sound they must have some kind of feelings about whats going on agreed.
I don't have as much problem with e-collars as I do those who use them and why.
Its not pride or love is it?

It is one thing not to know better but this is not the case ( very sad for the dog :(

There are times when shock collars are called for........this is not one of them.

If a dog wants to jump throught a huge glass window every time a cat walks by the yard........
or if it runns out into traffic to chase a car.........

Try to break them every way possible if they don't listen shock them.........

The reason is to stop them from hurting them selves........

A dog not "going out" while very frustrating to the trainer, is not putting its self in danger........better training.....not a shock collar is the key to sucess......

Train the dog as a Teacher, with appropriate controlled reprimand/correction as necessary - NOT an egotistical mad anger to torture the dog!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a send out pretty damn easy to teach to a dog with high drives as it primarily taught via motivation? 

I would also say if a dog is "refusing" there is a repsect and/or trust issue between the dog and handler that needs to be resolved before training can progress.

Kathy, You are absolutley correct. It IS a very easy exercise to teach and a dog with even medium drives "gets" it quickly. The key is finding out what "motivates" the dog most. Usually, it is a toy at the end of the field. Who has NOT seen at least one dog at a trial clearly looking for the toy :-) Too bad that a club with the resources and cohesion to have a club house, with a sound system, no less, hasn't advanced its training past 1989. That said, e-collars have their place and appropriate use. I have used them and will do so again. I actually "up-graded" from the one I used with my male (with over the top drives), because my bitch puppy is Hell spawn with nearly over the top drives and edgy. Turns out that I may never have any use for it with her, because she is much more handler- sensitive than the male is. Surprised the hell out of me and everyone else, but there it is. :-) The e-collar is a tool, as is a prong collar, a clicker, or car. All of them can be misused or abused. (OK, can't think how a clicker can be abusive, but it can be misused. Just watch someone with no clue using one. LOL)

....just a passing thought.   Suppose everytime you did not perform your job to the satisfaction of your Supervisor, or make your Supervisor "look good to others," you would receive a shock.....my oh my !!  

I'd probably do a better job.  In all seriousness Maggie, the ecollar is a great tool, but like all other tools, it must be used properly, not abused.
