4 month old puppies do not throw temper tantrums.?

VonIsengard

No, you are right YR, not at that age. You see it more in older puppies and adolescents who have gotten away with murder and now someone is trying to take charge of them.

There is so much more research that has been done on domestic dogs (and wild canids) on behaviors/emotions. Researchers are constantly surprised by what they find out and the gold standard of being able to reproduce the results (using same research methods and different ones) along with peer review shows that this is not just BS. Researchers have found that the old idea of Alpha Rollover is a misnomer, Alpha dogs do not throw submissive dogs on their backs, it is more about the alpha coming up to the submissive in a dominant way (all about mindset and body language) and the submissive rolling over (they had to slow the videos way down to see the subtleties), this is outside the fighting for control of the pack, but then again there is so much subtle body language that the researchers find after playing the videos on slo-mo zillions of times. Also they have found that wild canids will care for and protect sick members (an Indian Dhole pack was taped caring for a partially paralyzed pup to the point of carrying it outside the den to potty, cleaning her, feeding her, carrying her to water until she died 6 months later, African Cape Hunting Dogs have been known to do the same as have Wolves). Dogs are amazing.

Sorry but I've just never heard someone say their dog was having a temper tantrum....LOL
And I have to laugh at parents whose children throw temper tantrums.

Now dre,
You can't just sneak in an edit and expect everyone to see it.
After reading your edit I recommend that you find an experienced trainer.

Moons.

I personally never saw a dog through a temper tantrum, I have seen dogs get pissy. When my trainer taught me the difference, he said "temper tantrums" were usually dogs that were having seizures, like the "springer rage" that is really seizure activity. I probably should have clarified what I meant. Sometimes my typing fingers don't always keep up with my what I am thinking LOL.

That is amazing!!!!

Mindhunt,
Does  that dispel the theory ( or is it  truth) that  ' animal/canine  leave their weak  or even kill- and feed and care for the strong to assure the species does not become extinct??

I am trying to learn. This is interesting!! The whole psychology and all :)

Katrina, I will try and find the research links for you. Researchers are finding out that former thinking on "survival of the fittest" is not quite what they thought. The availablity of technology that tracks brain activity, follows animals with cameras mounted on those that are being studied, more sophisticated tracking and computer software, the findings are exciting. There was a study that showed dogs are able to make correlations between new information and what they already know based on experience. Dogs are able to understand basic abstract concepts. Research has found that dogs are much more intelligent then previously thought. They read human body language better than primates. We are talking a millimeter of movement is all it takes for the dog to read new meaning. It really is exciting what the research is finding out, it also makes owning dogs much more of a responsibility.

I am so interested OMG-if you do find the links I know what I will be reading for the next month or year!!!!
Kaiser knows when I am starting to get upset and I never even move a muscle-he leaves whatever he is doing and comes to me and leans into me or even jumps up to me. I may be feeling vertigo or as I said frustrated about something and he is right there.
It is amazing. Do you believe that some dogs could be telepathic? Or is that a bit  extreme a woman who works for TUFTS now said she thought Kaiser  could be -but I don't know what she was basing that on-I wasn't paying her lol...

Feel free to send them to my e-mail  GSDkatrina@aol.com

Thanks:)

Okie Amazon

Brago most definitely threw a tantrum when he was about ten weeks old. He had been out playing, it was near bedtime. Steve took him out for his last potty and then came in the bedroom and called him to come. He knew he was going into the crate and didn't want to, so he started under the bed. Steve reached under and got him and Brago went OFF!!  Growling, snarling, biting..... literally a tantrum. Steve scruffed him good and made him yelp. Put him down and same scenario ensued. THIS time Steve scruffed and shook until Brago began to believe his life was about to end.  Never again in years has Brago shown any temper towards either of us, but a litter mate of his was actually put down for uncontrolled aggression. (Plus too much e-collar, IMHO)  Had he gotten away with this behavior then, no telling what kind of dog he would have ended up.

Hey Okie,
I have two dogs in rescue right now that are used to getting away with temper tantrums and probably did exactly what your young one did...that is why their owners are gave them up, because they didn't control it before...damn people.

Now I am trying to rehab them...the 3 yr old is coming along nicely...the other I just received yesterday, wish me luck and tough skin and the muscle to handle these HUGE dogs...I am only 5'5" and 120 lbs. They weigh as much as I do...LOL...
