Mirasmom how much is roached back and how much is a really bad stack on the dog you named Ouch?

I'd like to see that dog in a natural position and not so stretched out that it looks like its legs are going to slip out from under it at any second. Look at how the handler is pulling the dog's neck and pushing its crop down.

While I don't think the dog Mirasmom posted is ideal conformation, neither do I believe it is a top winning dog or typical of current SV conformation. And I guarantee you that I could stack the same dog into an award winning pose.

My theory is put what you believe on a leash and put it in the ring of your choice. In other words, "don't tell me what you know. Show me what you got."

All this blasting of what others do does nothing for the advancement oif the breed.

this type of blasting is one of the things that caused many or our most respected members to quit the board......lets not go there again.

Sita'sMom, that is a crock! Name one who left because people don't like roach backed dogs or crooked back ends, which IMO they should NOT like nor condone.  If you care at all about the GSD as a breed, you wouldn't defend it either. BTW, where is the blasting or bashing?!

by TessJ10 on 21 May 2009 - 23:05

mimi, you titled your thread "Roach back, normal, really?" and then in your FIRST SENTENCE said:

"What is the idea, really, of having a roach back in GSD? ... the worst being American show lines."

You also write:

"Amercian show lines don't have the roach back "

(SIgh).  Why would you write that stuff then?

Anyway, nice to see you called out by so many people, all of whom responded quite tactfully.  Since you do have a GSD and compete with Malis, are you saying your dog has a roach back?  Just asking.  I'm wondering where you got your ideas from.

Mindhunt,

Nice looking dog!

I know there are larger dogs out there that can/do work, I just meant I have yet to see one myself or see such large dogs being used in good breeding programs, so someone coming to a GSD board and saying that 120+lb dogs can't work is preaching to the choir.  We all know that's not the norm.  That's not to say there aren't dogs that size that have done their jobs well.  My bitch is small so it's sorta the same with her but the opposite end of the spectrum.  I know there are those that intentionally breed for huge size but my experience has been that these are not people who really work their dogs or breed for work.

Tess, if you are going to quote her, quote her correctly.  I knew what she meant, and she was referring to the German Showline in general having the roached back, and the American Lines being the ones with the extreme angulation in the back, WHY?  because in general she is exactly right.
She is new, and wanted to comment on it, she isn't the first and won't be the last.   People are noticing, and denying it won't fool or convince anyone that it isn't happening out there.  Just like the fact that alot are breeding workingline without clear heads.  It is happening, and there is nothing wrong with calling breeders on it.

red  sable, I read her post 3 times and I did not know what she meant. To me, she was saying that Am. S/L have roached backs. I also understood what sitasmom was saying..

Maybe you are the one who should not jump so fast.

This is a good thread. Don't f*** it up with ignorance.

Best,
Rik

Oh come on Rik, it's okay for you to agree with the American Showline comment, but not the GSL roached back comment, you are pretty transparant.  Don't call me ignorant if you had to read it three times, and still didn't get it.  She even came back and clarified.  You showline folk are pretty amusing.   Good thread?  LOL, the rest of your cronies are calling it bashing and blasting, good for who then, huh?  Brother.

red sable, the OP stated that American S/L and German S/L have roached backs. I disagreed.

Haus Pharo has several years of German VA's posted on his web site. Please point out the roached ones.

And I did not call you ignorant. I have a feeling that you will prove that point without my help.

Do you even bother to read a thread before you reply.

Rik
