YR, I dont think you and I read the same post from Oli regarding the change to this part of the forum.
It is my understanding Oli wanted amore open dog forum in hopes that most dog owners would post together about dogs generally - not that it gave theGSD people a site for posting off topic content.
It has turned out to be quite stupid - when there's a kazillion political forums to post on - and I will continue to post dog related topics on those threads.

YR:
Oli wrote on the main page of the site - for all breeds of dog owners:
If you are looking for general dog advice (training, grooming, vet issues , etc.) use the website search or search the German Shepherd message-board (longest living and most active)
so they come to this part of the forum and see "general" and "gsd" - clearly, the "general" was meant to be used for "general dog advise, training, grooming, vet issues, etc)

luv, that's the same impression I got.
I just now bumped up the thread where Oli introduced the changes. It's my understanding that the "General" forum is available to all breeds, i.e., it goes across all the breed forums. Try it - go to "Switch breeds". Select any other breed, say, Italian Greyhound. Once there, there will be two forums available: "Italian Greyhound" and "General Topic". Click on "General Topic". Voila! It is the same one that is accessed via GSD.
From Oli:
"Now I have put this messageboard through out all breeds. You will start to see nonGSD related posts. Play nice with the newcomers.
There is now a GSD board for those GSD only related matters."
Somewhere I also thought he explained the rationale, as saying that the GSD forum was more active and had lots of good information that in some cases would be applicable and useful to other breeds as well. So he wanted those posts to be available in general, not breed-specific.
Emphasis on "had".
It was a good idea. Too bad it was used the way it was. Too bad there have been so many good folks leave.

Sometimes, jayne, I wonder if some posters have full cognitive reading ability, or if there are simply poosr memories. Thanks for finding that - I was looking for that post. That's exactly what I recall was the rationale for the split.
The namecalling and political crap would turn away newcomers, I'm thinking. (notwithstanding the fact that it's also making more people leave)
So the "General Topic" on all breed forums is linked tothis forum? it's a wonder there aren't more posts from non-gsd posters - but I guess that will take some time.

I don't think anyone has left, I think they are just waiting to see something new, that hasn't been covered a dozen times in the recent past. Something interesting or important. They don't want to give advice to My dogs thrown up three times today so I fed him nachos........ See where I'm going with this.
And the off topic posts are the only thing keeping part of this board active.
You guys have been singing this same song for so long.
Why haven't you posted a dog topic?
I'm thinking of posting one of my favorite music videos..
Hey my dogs as big as a barrel and she's getting ready to have pups !! What ya think?
I gotta admit the boards been a little boring lately.
Moons.

luv, I know.
I found and bumped Oli's original explanation. It was posted on the GSD forum, not the general (non-breed specific) forum. Oli said, and I quote:
"Yes, There is so much general information available to the users of this web, its a shame that other breed owners wont share that wisdom. So Im moving the old GSD messageboard across all breeds"
Too bad others didn't agree with using the general cross-cutting forum for wisdom of interest to other breed owners.
If you were a regular on the forum here for another breed, would *you* post here?

"Why haven't you posted a dog topic?"
I did, a few days ago. I've been busy since then, and then I come back to find most of the threads I won't even click on, because if I did, and complained about the off-topic-ness, some smart guy would say "well you didn't have to click on it now didja?" Which basically leaves this thread and a few more. Yep the puppy threads are cute, I just don't have anything to add to those.
I defended Auntie Shelley, does that count for posting something on-topic?
