sitasmom, where do you live that you worry about someone stealing them? I would consider moving if the crime is that bad near you. I have no worries about this problem...

To each his own.  Nothing wrong with getting a pup used to being outside in a kennel gradually.  I certainly don't worry about somone stealing my dogs where I am, if my dogs wander off down the road, that is a different story, but that is the whole idea of a kennel, to keep them safe.  Use a lock on the gate if you are paranoid about someone taking it.

I cannot see Goran going with any one on his own free will unless he was doped up they would not even get to open his pen, because you have to put your hand through the bars to unbolt it, as well as a catch on the outside, and the dog would take the hand and wrist first of the one trying it
And they sure would not have with Fred
Not that i ever think about it, the Gate is locked if we are not at home and any access to the Garden is not really possible except from the gate which is locked

I put my puppies outside as soon as I feel like it, usually when it stops raining and temps are not freezing. Let's be realistic here people, most of us have jobs and not everybody works at home. Keeping a pup in a crate while at work is not doable and kennels are not cruel. I'm guessing most pups are born outside in a kennel and are raised in one from birth, not in the bedroom like a human child. I know some like to pretend they are superior breeders or puppy raisers because their pups are raised indoors, really your just doing a deservice to the dog that will get the boot later on and have to "adjust". Where I come from, dogs are brought in for potty trainng, not thrown out for kennel traning, when did the world get so backwards?

There's nothing wrong with keeping a pup in a kennel, or a crate, but I spend a lot of time with a pup at this age and I believe because of the age more caution is warranted than with an older pup.

At this age I am still bonding, and crate training lasts longer than two weeks for me.   Two weeks ago the pup was with its litter mates.   I would do things gradually with a young pup.

I prefer to keep a closer eye on my dogs then to keep them in a kennel.

Once someone followed my dad home after seeing one of his hunting dogs work. The dog lived in a kennel in the back yard. Barney Dog's kennel lock was cut and we never saw him again......We lived in a really nice neighborhood in a small town and no one say anything.

I've heard of dogs being drugged right before competitions, and evey poisoned too. Kennels are not for me.

LoL if you dog got himself stolen than it wasn't good dog to begin with. You can come down and try to steal my dog just don't cry when you end up with your face taken off. Unless it's a pup, or it got dopped like steve said there is no way good dog would let anyone remove him from his home.

My dog was at the house till her first heat, (my run was gettingbuild) since than she never been back, she looks better than ever and loves sleeping outdoors moves her blanket around to accomadate her better dependingo n the weather change. ;)
