Looks like a flash flood nightmare in that canyon if it ever rained out there. The photos really are stunning. Amazing the lack of color in the marble but I'm sure some of its just not showing well here or is it really that blah looking?
Drake looks like he couldn't be in better shape.

Drake looks awesome...Get both of those pics framed when you get home..The second one enlarge it and do a framing with matting , etc..couldnt have posed better if you glued him there.

Death Valley is my husband's favorite haunt.  Here are some pics we took a couple of years ago.  Incidentally he is off with our male GSD hiking in eastern Oregon right now.

I must say that the valley is one (1) of my favourite places to visit, and I usually end a trip to Las Vegas with a drive out and through the valley for a couple of days. The only word that comes to mind is "otherworldly" to describe my feelings about the place. Very nice pictures!

Best Regards,

Forgot to mention, we had a pack of dogs with us on that trip:

ET with DH and General Sherman.  We wanted the smallest dog to pee on the biggest tree, (largest known living thing on the earth) but he just said i'm cold and I want you to PICK ME UP!  King's Canyon National Park, California.

Here is DH and the big boy at John Muir fossil beds.

Long day on the road, on our way to Crescent City to see the redwoods.  All of this mountain driving is making me dizzy, no guard rails and drops in the thousands of feet!  I'm terrified of heights but it hasn't stopped me yet!  On my way down a mountain today, a cop went whizzing past, lights blaring.  Scared the living daylights out ot me!  About 5  miles down at the bottom, I saw why.  Car over the edge, laying on it's side.  No ambulance, just cops milling around so I'm thinking no survivors .  It was at the bottom of the canyon and only about maybe 50 feet down.

To anwser questions...Yes, I have a first aid kit, very large one.  One very important thing I added was burn gel bandages "second skin".  When I was in Florida, my cousin threw Drake's ball when we were taking a rest.  His 30' lead was at my ankles, wrapped around and took a couple layers of skin off the front of my shins, OUCH.  Very much like a burn, the skin was gone the width of the lead.  Put those bandages on and it truly is like a second skin, worked wonders.  The only gross thing is, they are perfectly clear so you can see the wound.  On the other hand, you can see if it's healing without having to remove the bandage.  I changed it daily and was healed up within a week with very little scarring, I highly recommend keeping them in your kit!

The snake is a whipsnake (red racer) and from what I've read, they're one of the fastest snakes in the desert, very hard to photograph!  They're also supposed to be pretty nasty, easily provoked and can deliver a nasty bite.  I found this one on our way down and had stepped right over him!  I was on the watch for sidewinders and knew this one wasn't venomous just by looking at his head.  I actually like snakes, caught plenty of them when I was a kid, but wouldn't have one for a pet.

We did not hike golden canyon, more traffic and I wasn't supposed to have Drake on any trails.  I looked for the more "out of the way" places where we could hike pretty much undetected   This canyon is right past Stovepipe Wells, a few miles up a very bumpy road, 5 mph but worth the trouble.  The color is pretty much as it appears in the pics but of course the veining is easier to see up close.  Drake wanted to see the color better so he wet it for me...

Wish we were with you now!  One of the best trips I can ever remember.
