My dogs do it too, especially my older bitch. But, my brother used to do it, also. When he was a little kid, he used to catch bees (bumblers), put them in his mouth, & puff up his cheeks so they could fly around in his mouth, then he would swallow them.....I think 'cause he liked to make my mother scream. Aren't little brothers gross?

Sabin does the same thing, he will stand at the flower garden and wait. He never seems to get hurt. When the beetles are out he tries to eat them too until he gets a taste of how sour they are. He loves grasshoppers also. I feed him the best dog food and he goes out and eats bugs, go figure.
Always,
Cee

Delicious and Nutritious!
I find it hysterical. They launch into the air, and bounce off of fences and kennel walls chasing insects.
If it becomes a problem, they will learn to suppress the urge. Jonah

The dogs don't seem to get stung, neither did my brother. He used to eat tulips, too. Not a single Easter picture without him eating part of the scenery! LOL! And he's reasonably normal, now! jh

I don't mind the big bad woodborer bees getting chomped, because I know the males have no stingers. And they are so bothersome in their territoriality, especially when they think the deck belongs to them, not me. I really worry late summer when the yellowjackets get cranky, they've got me a few times, once in the belly, even, NOT fun. Do they have dog epi-pens, I wonder? I might get one to have, just in case.......

My dog also chases bees. I think she caught one once but don't think she was stung as I didn't see any swelling.
She also goes out "worming" in the morning. I swear I think she hears them! She'll walk around the yard w/her head down, then stop, wait, cock her head, start wagging her tail then scratch with a paw, wait, wag her tail again and repeat all over again.
The first time I witnessed her doing this I had to go check out what she was into and sure enough it was a big fat worm.

My old girl also loves the bees, she sits beside the flowering shrubs and snaps at the bees with her front teeth she has been stung a few times usually on the nose, then she goes crazy rubbing her face in the grass but then she will go back to the shrub for more bees.

Its so funny because the other night i heard this huge noise so i grabbed my gun and snuck down stairs. (2am) When I got to the bottom i realized the noise was a crate crashing all over. I turn the light on and my male had flipped his crate (so that he could only stand on two feet) trying to catch a fly in the dark. I am still amazed on baffled on how he did it.

My puppy loves to eat june bugs... he ate so many the other night that when he pooped the next day there was nothing but crunched up june bugs and june bug juice. It was disgusting! But neither of mine have tried to eat bees.
