Helmut Konig is great! So is Rudiger Mai, another "three-for."
I have been in clubs in which the show breeder/exhibitor who "needed" a survey on a dog or two (or 3 or 4) actually assumed the cost of bringing in the judge/koermeister, because it was more for their convenience, than for anyone else. The club hosted the event, provided the manpower, etc., but the cost of bringing in the judge (travel, meals and hotel) was the breeder's responsibility. So, if you are a member of a club, and are willing to foot the major share of the cost, perhaps you can persuade your club to host a show/breed survey.

There are fewer shows the last few years overall. In my area, there were clubs that held a couple of shows every year. Add in the Canadian shows and we had at least 8-10 shows and surveys within a 2-3 hour radius every year. That is not counting those in "outlying" areas (3+ hours' drive). That started dwindling when gas prices went through the roof. Entries dropped like rocks. Shows that had been 80+ dogs and 10+ surveys went to 35, even 25 entries and a half dozen surveys. When it became more costly for exhibitors to enter and attend, it became more expensive for clubs to host the shows/surveys, because they lost money. I know of shows/surveys that were cancelled, because the low number of entries meant that the club was going to really take a bath. It was cheaper to just forfeit the judge's ticket.
With the rotten economy, I don't expect that to change, soon. The only show within a 3 mile drive of me this entire year is in Canada in October. No other shows/surveys are scheduled, until next May.
