Thank you GSDSamsonsmom!!
Yes, a police officer my husband used to work with was moving out of state, so we got the dog from him. The guy that he got her from had her parents registered, but did not register the litter because he did not want the puppies used for breeding.
You hit the nail on the head on that one! :)

Without knowing why the female has no papers it's tough to offer advice on what you need to do to get AKC papers. Sorry.

by heathernstaton on 24 April 2009 - 19:04

Understandable...
I was on the AKC website the other day, and I can't remember where I found the information and now I cannot find it again, but it was showing other registration clubs they accept to register the litter if for example the female was AKC and the male was another. Does anyone have any information on that?
I called AKC today and was on hold for an hour and gave up on that thought for today.

SO IF THE PARENTS ARE AKC REGISTERED AND YOU KNOW THE BREEDER HAVE HIM SIGN THE PROPER PAPERWORK AND SEND IN THE PROPER FEES TO THE AKC AND YOU MAY BE IN BUSINESS. YOU NEED TO CALL THE AKC AND EXPLAIN YOUR DILEMA. ONLY THE AKC CAN GIVE YOU THE INFO YOU NEED. EITHER THAT OR SEND ME THE 50 BUCKS.

We don't know the actual breeder. We know the guy that got the dog from the breeder.
I'll have to call AKC another day. I can't spend my Friday afternoon on hold for hours :)

I'm not 100% sure if this is what you are referring to, but it may be discussing the foreign registries such as the SV. If this is what you are referring to, both parents would still have to be registered for this to apply. And Continental Kennel Club is NOT one that can be transferred to AKC.

by heathernstaton on 24 April 2009 - 19:04

Right, I do remember seeing that you cannot transfer CKC or UKC to AKC.
Thanks for the help everyone. And if anyone just happens to come across anything or has any other suggestions/advice, please let me know.

If he didnt register the litter because he didnt want the pups used for breeding, then why use her for breeding when his intentions were for her not to be bred?  That is completely doing an injustice to the original breeder.  Spay your bitch and if you truly want to become a breeder get a registered female,  and go the extra mile and health test, title and then get a long list of people who have a want of the litter before you breed.  Its not worth bringing a litter in if you are not able to keep all of them if they dont sell. Not trying to bash, but if you can't get AKC papers on her, no matter what regsitry you go with wether Continental Kennel club, Animal Pet registry  or anything else, they will register a dog that is purple with yellow polka dots if you tell them its a poodle or any breed for that matter and if you pay the fee they will register a mutt and say its a poodle.

Good Luck.

I have come to believe that is true about any of the clubs besides AKC.
If it were up to me, I'd breed my dog and keep every single litter she had. But my husband wants to sell them.
My husband is a sheriff's deputy in our local town & his co-workers already have voiced to us that they want a pup from us when we decide to breed. It's not the entire issue to have my female AKC registered, it's more of a chore my husband has asked me to research. Yes, I would love for her to be registered AKC, not to prove that she is purebred or whatnot, but I know in my area, people would rather have AKC than not.
