Just want to clarify something..Age is not a factor at all.

It is proven that in dogs..arthroses is always secondary to a primary problem. nbspThat means if your dog is OFA excellent at two and you take an X-Ray at 11 years old he will have the same good hip as before..I can testify with my own dogs and others we have X-Rayed at the clinic (young and then after old). nbspIn fact to be sure that a dog has very good HIP we should X-Ray nbspthem again around 5 and 10 and if your dog shows sign of arthroses it means that probably the ligamentation was loos and it didn't show up when young.

This dog doesn't have arthosis yet..but the conformation is not optimal, less than 50% in the acetabulum and you can see the femoral heads are not nbspfit thighly in. I would say bordeline for now..but if you take them again in 3 years I would bet there will be sign of arthrosis.

This does not mean the dog will limp thought..can live a wonderful life but I wouldn't breed him for sure..

Anyone else? Love to hear more opinions. From people I have asked to view these in person, the responses have ranged from mild HD to GOOD. My vet thinks they will OFA Fair. I'd love to hear more opinions. I am learning so like to hear from as many different views as possible.

are you sending them in to OFa for evaluation?  They will not pass I am certain - certainly not good, and not even Fair.  But the only way you can know for sure is to send them in.

sorry, i have to agree with molly.....again.  i don't believe they will pass either.  probably mild hd.  if you take care of this fella, he could hold together.  keep him lean.  extra weight is hard on joints.  good muscle tone is critical and will help hold him together.  low impact walking and plenty of it.  good diet.  don't let him jump out of the back of a pickup or even out of a car if it is very high off the ground.  some dogs have trouble with stairs, too.  you can always try the supplements, but i think the biggest thing is to keep him lean and well muscled.

good luck.  pjp

I would be very surprised if OFA passes them, but please, let us know.
